Assignment on Interest 20113046 (ME)

I have taken the interview of my friend X who is currently pursuing a B.Tech in Mechanical
Engineering from SKIT Jaipur, Rajasthan.
On asked about his meaning of interest in academics, he replied- “If I feel enthusiastic and
motivated towards a particular course. I have curiosity, passion, and desire to learn more about
the subject after then I can say I am interested in this course or academics.” To the question -
Have you pursued this branch of engineering out of your interest, he answered yes and said, “I
always aspired to be a mechanical engineer. I always had a natural curiosity and interest in how
things work, and mechanical engineering provides an opportunity to learn about the science and
principles behind the operation of various systems, machines, and devices.” He said his family
and friends highly influence him and they contributed highly to developing his interest when
asked if he got ever influenced by others and what are they doing in their lives. When asked
about what factors contribute to maintaining his interest in this branch, he told, “I enjoy
mechanics, and the major role is played by our wonderful and helpful professors who teach us.
Mechanical engineers often work on designing and creating solutions to complex problems,
which requires analytical thinking, creativity, and innovation, and I enjoy the challenge of
problem-solving and finding solutions to real-world problems, and that’s why I never lose
interest in mechanical engineering.”
Do you see your career in the branch you are pursuing?
He answered, “Yes, I do see my career in it. Mechanical engineering is a broad field that can be
applied in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, energy, and
robotics. This means that a mechanical engineering degree can lead to many different career
paths and opportunities.”
Do you think your institution played important in shaping your interest?
“No, my institution did not play an important role in shaping my interest. My college does not
provide technical clubs and other facilities like other top universities.”
On asked about what influenced his interest in engineering on campus, he said, “I got highly
influenced by my hard-working peer group and motivating professors. Also, I topped in the first
semester which subsequently increases my interest in engineering as I have always feared losing
my top position.”
Have you had any specific memorable class or academic experiences that have influenced your
interest in this branch?
He answered, “Yes, experiences like field trips, hands-on projects, and design competitions have
increased my interest in this branch.”
Are you still exploring your various fields of interest or are you sure about your interest?

1
He answered, “Yes, I am exploring other fields like Machine Learning, Music, Dancing, and
Programming.”
How does the way in which information is presented, such as through lectures, readings, or
group discussions, impact your interest and engagement in a subject?
He answered, “If the lecture is dry or monotonous, it can lead to disengagement and decreased
interest in the subject. On the other hand, if the lecturer is engaging and uses interactive
techniques such as humor, storytelling, or demonstrations, it can increase interest and
engagement. Providing readings that are relevant, interesting, and at an appropriate level can
increase interest and engagement. Group discussions can be effective for promoting active
learning and engagement. Discussions can encourage students to share their perspectives, ask
questions, and debate ideas.”
Have you always been interested in your academic major, or did your interest develop over time?
He replied, “ I have always been interested in my academic major.”
Do you believe your interest in your academic major will remain consistent over time or do you
think it will change? If yes, what factors do you believe will influence this change?
He answered, “I think my interest will remain the same as I had a past where I didn’t lose my
interest easily. I am a very consistent person and don’t prefer changes. I don’t get either interest
very easily or when I get interested then I don’t lose it easily.”

From the answers he gave to me, I conclude that he is a very motivating, competitive, consistent,
and hard-working person who get highly influenced by his peer group. He also shows a little bit
tendency of getting demotivated when he will face failures and it might lead to losing his interest
in academics. He mentioned that his interest in academics is driven by good results and
competition, as well as a strong curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. He enjoys exploring and
understanding the principles behind various systems, machines, and devices. He really enjoys his
branch and took it out of his interest and he is highly interested in it. He noted that his institution
did not play a significant role in shaping his interest, and his interest in Mechanical has increased
since enrolling due to the help from professors. While he currently sees his career in this field, he
also mentioned increasing interest in Machine Learning. He also mentioned that the way
information is presented impacts his interest, and he has always been consistently interested in
his academic major.
