MELC: Visualizes and describes solid figures

Makes models of different solid figures: cube, prism, cylinder, cone, and
sphere using plane figures.
PART 1:

MELC: Visualizes and describes solid figures.

A. INTRODUCTION AND DISCUSSION

In this lesson you will have a broader understanding of visualizing and describing solid figures. We will
discuss further the topic on solid figures.

Lesson 1
Read.
What is Solid Figure?

Solid figure is a three dimensional figure. It is made up of plane figure whose all sides are joined together to
form a close figure . Meaning they have length, width, and height.

Some examples of solid figures include cubes, cylinders, cones, prisms, pyramids, spheres and rectangular
prisms.

MELC: Makes models of different solid figures: cube, prism, cylinder, cone, and sphere using plane figures.

DISCUSSION:

Solid figures are three-dimensional figures. A three-dimensional object has length, width and height.
Moreover, they may have faces, edges and vertices.
A face is the flat surface of a solid figure.

face

1
An edge is formed when two faces meet. An edge is a straight line segment.

edge

A vertex is a point where edges meet.

vertex

Vertex

Solid figure are either polyhendron or non-polyhendron.

A solid is a polyhendron if all its faces are polygons, otherwise it is a non-polyhedron,
A polyhedron may be a prism or a pyramid.
Non-polyhendrons are cones, sphere and cylinders beacause they have sides that are not polygons.
