A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 6

THIRD QUARTER

NAME OF TEACHER: GEROME R. NEGAD DATE: FEBRUARY 22, 2022

GRADE AND SECTION: 6 – HELICONIA TIME: _______________

I. MELC-based Objective:
Visualizes and describes the different solid figures: cube, prism, pyramid,
cylinder, cone, and sphere using various concrete and pictorial models.

KBI: Being Helpful

II. Content and Materials:

A. Visualizing and Describing the Different Solid Figures
B. References: MELC p.224, 21st Century Mathletes 187, SLM Math 6 Q3-W1
C. Materials: Video clip, PowerPoint presentation, projector, laptop, pictures
D. Integration: Literacy, ESP, Music & ICT

III. Procedure:
A. Preparatory Activities:
1. Drill
Arrange the jumbled letters to form correct names of solid figure. Read
and pronounce the arranged word correctly.

1. C E B U 4. LINDERCY
2. ISMPR 5. HERESP
3. RAMIDPY 6. ONCE

2. Review
Name each polygon

1. 2. 3.

4. 5.
3. Motivation:
Show a video/song presentation on 3D shapes/ Solid Figures
Ask: What are the different 3D shapes or solid figures mentioned in the
song? Today, we are going to learn the different solid figures.
Again, lets sing the song 3D shapes.

B. Presentation:

The teacher will present the following real-life situation.

Jomong is helping her mother clean the kitchen cabinet. While

rearranging the food display in the cabinet, he noticed that the containers
have different shapes. There are sardines, corned beef and tuna in cans, and
condiments in bottles. There is also milk in boxes, boxes of toothpaste and
bar of soaps. Can you tell what shapes do these objects have?

Ask: Do you help your mother/father in household chores? How do you

feel when helping them? What values is shown when you help your
parents?

C. Discussion
The teacher will emphasize the following:

All the things that we see inside and outside our houses come in different
shapes. These figures are called solid figures.

Ask: How do we describe a solid figure?

Solid figures are figures that have three dimensions such as length, width, and
height. It has faces and sides that are polygons. These faces meet the edges,
which are line segments. Each endpoint of an edge is called a vertex
Let’s study the characteristics of the different solid figures.

Solid Figures Description/Characteristics Illustration

1. Cube a solid figure with 6
congruent faces. It has 6
faces, 12 edges and 8
vertices.

2. Prisms are solid figures that have

parallel faces that have the
same shape. These faces of
its sides are parallelograms.

3. Pyramid a solid figure made up of base

and triangular faces. These
faces meet at a common
topmost point called the
vertex.

4. Cylinder a solid figure that has two

circles and a curved lateral
face.

5. Cone solid figure that has a

circular flat base and a
curved face pointed towards
the top. The pointed top end
of the cone is called the apex.
6. Sphere a solid figure in which all
points are of equal distance
from a point called its center
and these points form a
curved surface as well.

Activity 1:
Identify the name of each solid figure.

1. ________________ 2. ________________

3. ________________ 4. _______________

5. ______________
Activity 2:
Choose the solid figure in Column B that is represented by the following
objects in column A. Write your answer on a sheet of paper.
A B
_____1. ice cube A. cone
_____2. tissue roll B. cube
_____3. match box C. cylinder
_____4. Volleyball ball D. rectangular prism
_____5. can of sardines E. sphere
_____6. milk box F. square pyramid
_____7. volcano G. triangular prism
_____8. Toblerone H. triangular pyramid
_____9. bus
_____10. Party hat

Activity 3:
Copy the table on a sheet of paper and complete the data by writing the
number of edges, faces and vertices of the given solid figures.

Solid Figure Vertices Faces Edges

Rectangular Prism
Cube
Rectangular Pyramid
Cone
Cylinder
Square Pyramid

D. Generalization:
1. How do we describe a solid figure?
2. What are the different solid figures?

E. Application:
Problem solving:
Junjie bought a robot for his little brother. He customized every part
of the robot by putting a design on each part. The robot appears as shown
below.

He wants to challenge his little brother by asking him to identify the different
solid figures in each of the corresponding parts of the robot. What are the
different solid figures that make up the robot?
Rubrics:
Points Description of Responses

clearly and with answer.
Has presented strategies in solving the problem but has not obtained the
4
final correct answer.
The work is presented systematically but with errors leading to incorrect
3
answer.
Suggest good mathematical thinking but with incomplete solution and no
2
answer
1 No solution/wrong solution but with correct answer.
0 No attempt.

IV. Evaluation
Write True if the statement is correct and False if it is not correct.

_________1. A solid figure can be seen and touched.

_________2. A cube is also a prism.
_________3. All solid figures have straight faces.
_________4. A cylinder has one vertex.
_________5. A triangular prism has 6 vertices.
_________6. Prism and pyramid are named according to the shape of its
base.
_________7. Spheres have two circular bases.
_________8. A cylinder has a curved lateral face.
_________9. Appliances are also solid figures.
_________10. A cone has a circular base.

V. Additional Activity
0n a sheet of paper, list down two (2) objects found in your
locality/community that resembles following solid figures.
