INSTRUCTIONS:

Assignment 02 consists of a number of questions. Answer all the questions. Number your answers
correctly and take note of the mark allocation for each question. We strongly recommend that you type
out your assignment. Submit your assignment to Unisa in the same manner as you would submit your
other assignments (i.e., via myUnisa).

To answer Assignment 02, you are requested to study unit 1 - The importance of listening
skills, and unit 2 – Promoting speaking skills using different language texts.
Remember to write all your particulars on the front cover. Also include the UNIQUE NUMBER for this
assignment.

2.1 As a new teacher in the foundation phase you are required to meet certain
standards when teaching a first additional language.

2.1 1 Discuss the standards set by Aitchison, Dixon, Pretorius, Reed and Verbeek
(2018)
for graduate teachers using your own words to show an understanding of the
requirements. (5)

2.2 Identify one component of speaking and discuss why it is more important
than others when teaching your learners.

2.3 One of the most important skills that a teacher needs to develop in the learners
is the ability to critically engage with texts in order to get meaning to prepare
before you teach your grade three class.

3.1 Read the following statement and answer the questions that follow:

Miss Beauty is a grade R teacher at Guyuni Primary School. She wanted to develop
listening skills in her learners while they are still young. Miss Beauty wants her
learners to engage in listening during lesson presentation. She always says that
when learners hear, they pay attention to sound.

Advise Miss Beauty on how she can examine the following aspects of sound in order
to enhance the listening skills of her grade R learners (provide relevant examples in
each aspect).

you to use multimodal communication when you teach your learners in your
class.

communication in your class to assist your learners? (10)
