2. Food is pushed through the esophagus into the stomach by means of a series of contraction called
peristalsis, this sphincter opens to let food pass into the stomach and closes to keep it there.

3. Function of esophagus sphincter- is to prevent air from entering into the esophagus during
breathing, it opens reflexively to allow food to enter then close to prevent regurgitation back into
the esophagus
