Ans. The children liked to read books.

Ans. They went to the small bookshop because it had many books. Also the shopkeeper
was a kind man who always helped them.

Ans. The girl bought a fat book with many stories and her brother bought a big book
with many pictures.

GRAMMAR – ADJECTIVES
Adjectives are the words that are used to describe a noun or a pronoun.

1. Descriptive or Qualitative Adjective - This adjective is used to describe the nature


of a noun by answering the question- ‘what kind’.

E.g.- a. Seema is a beautiful girl.


b. I got a new hat for the party.
2. Quantitative Adjective -This adjective provides information about the quantity of the
noun/pronoun. It answers the question – how much / how many.

E.g. - a. Many people came to visit the fair.


b. Every day, he spends some of his time reading books.

3. Demonstrative Adjective- This adjective is used to directly refer to something or someone.


Some examples are - this, that, these, those.

E.g.- a. That bat belongs to me.


b. Can you send those books to the library?

4. Possessive Adjective- This adjective indicates possession or ownership. These adjectives


always come before a noun.
Some examples are - my, his, her, our, their, you.

E.g. - a. My car is parked outside.


b. She gave me her suitcase.

5. Proper Adjective - A Proper adjective is an adjective that comes from a proper noun and
starts with a capital letter.

E.g.- a. Spices are widely used in Indian cooking.


b. He gifted me a French perfume.

Grammar – Use of Can, May, Might


Can

1) Can is often used to make requests.


Eg - Can I borrow your car?

2) Can is also used to express ability to do something.


Eg - Rita can swim very well.

May and Might

1. May and Might are used to talk about the possibility of something happening.
2. May is used for things that are more likely to happen and might refers to things that are
less likely to happen.

Eg – a) Your head is warm. You may be coming down with a cold.

b) Do you think it will rain tonight? I don’t know, it might.

3. May and Might are used to ask for permission in a formal way.

Eg – May I borrow the car tomorrow?
