Have the pupil look at the photos (see
photocopiable material on page 3) and identify
the school objects. Ask the following questions:
1 Is it an eraser?
2 Is it a ruler? Is it brown?
3 Is it an eraser?
4 How many pencils (can you see)?
5 How many books (can you see)?
6 How many backpacks (can you see)?
Part 2
Have a pupil choose Card 1 or Card 2 (see
photocopiable material on page 3). You may
want to explain that one card has questions
a teacher asks and the other card has the
answers. Tell them to imagine they are the
person on the card they have chosen and that
they are meeting the other person on the first
day of school. Ask them to use the questions
and answers given to make a mini-dialogue.
You play the role of the other person. Then
you play the role of the teacher and engage
the pupil in a similar conversation, but this time
using their own personal information.
2 How many (can you see)? Encourage pupils

Part 1
Have the pupil look at the family tree (see
photocopiable material on page 4). Point to
the boy named Martín and tell them to imagine
they are that child. Explain that they have to
introduce their family as if they were Martín,
using: This is my... My family is big/small.
Part 2
Have the pupil look at the photos (see
photocopiable material on page 4) and imagine
they are members of their family. Ask them to
choose one, from 1 to 3. Ask them to prepare
their own presentation following Cathy’s model
text.

identify the actions. Point to the first photo
and ask, Can you swim? Repeat the procedure
with photos 2 and 3. Then swap roles and
encourage them to ask you about photos
4 to 6.
Part 2
Have the pupil look at the photos (see
photocopiable material on page 5) and
identify the actions. Encourage them to make
sentences, using: He/She/They can… and He/
She/They can’t… Finally, ask them to choose
two actions and make a positive and a negative
sentence about themselves using can and
can’t.

Have the pupil look at the photos (see
photocopiable material on page 6) and identify
the animals. Look at the first photo and ask:
to say the number and the animals. (14 cats,
11 rabbits, 9 rabbits, 19 goats, 9 hamsters,
19 dogs)
Part 2
Have the pupil look at the table (see
photocopiable material on page 7) and make
sentences about the first two animals using
have got. Then point to the cat and ask, Has
he got a cat? Has she got a cat? Have you got
a cat? Repeat the procedure with the other
three animals of the table.

something you don’t.
