- A Past Simple igeidőnél, ha alanyra vagy annak részére kérdezünk (ki/k – who, mi/k – what) nem szerepel
a kérdésben a did: Who cut (V 2) the grass last weekend? – Ki vágta/Kik vágták le a füvet az elmúlt
hétvégén? Who lived here?/What happened?

- Az –ed kiejtése nagyon fontos a beszédben, különösen a megértés miatt. Ez a magyaroknak különösen
nagy nehézséget szokott okozni, ha már nem eleve helyesen tanulták meg a kiejtést. Az alábbi táblázat ezt
rendszerezi:

végződő igéknél végződik. Csak a kiejtés számít!

- A két múlt idő egymáshoz viszonyított használata szokta a legnagyobb problémát jelenteni. Az alábbi 5
típus segítségével aránylag könnyen elsajátítható használatuk.
- Mivel a Past Simple-t sokkal gyakrabban használják, ha kétséged van, hogy melyik igeidőt használd,
használd a Past Simple-t!
- Az alábbi kérdések és válaszok is segítenek megérteni a két igeidő egymáshoz való kapcsolatát.
What were you doing when you saw the accident? – I was walking in the street when I saw the accident.
What did you do when you saw the accident? – I called the police when I saw the accident.
** A Past Continous használatát és fontosságát talán egy képzeletbeli kihallgatás részlete tudja megmutatni:
- What were you doing at 7 o’clock yesterday? - And what was your girlfriend wearing?
- I was walking in the park with my girlfriend. - I think she was wearing a blue tracksuit and red trainers.
- What were you wearing? - Was there anybody else in the park?
- I was wearing a green tracksuit and red - Well, some kids were playing football there and some
trainers. people were jogging.

** Yesterday (Ez a typical day múltbeli megfelelője)
When did you wake up yesterday? I woke up at 6.
When did you get up? I got up at the same time.
What did you do in the bathroom? I washed my face, cleaned my teeth and combed my hair.
Did you have breakfast? Of course I did.
What did you have for breakfast? I had a sandwich for breakfast.
How did you go to school? I went to school by car.
When did you leave for school? I left for school at about 7.30.
How long did it take to get there? It took about half an hour.
How many lessons did you have? I had 6 lessons.
Where did you have lunch? I had lunch in the canteen.
What did you have for lunch? I had some soup and a second course.
When did you finish school? I finished at about half past 2.
What did you do after school? I had a training and did my hw.
When did you arrive home? I arrived home at about 6.30.
Who made dinner? My mum did. She is a great cook.
What did you do after dinner? I took a shower, watched tv and surfed the net.
Who washed up? The dishwasher did. It’s a great invention.
When did you go to bed? I went to bed at about 10 o’clock.
How many hours did you sleep? I slept about 8 hours.

When did you get up? I got up at about half past nine.
What did you do then? I had breakfast.
What did you do in your free time? I learned some English, surfed the net and rested.

Where did you have lunch? I had lunch at home.
What did you do on Saturday evening? I went to the cinema with my friends and had fun.
When did you go to bed? I went to bed at about midnight.
Why did you like your last weekend? What a silly question! Because I didn’t have to go to school.

- When did you last go on holiday? - How long did it take to get there?
- I last went on holiday last summer. - It took about 2 hours.
- Where did you go? - How long did you stay in Naples?
- I went to Naples. - I stayed there for a week.
- Why did you go to Naples? - What did you do there?
- Because I have friends there and I love the city. - Many things. I ate great pizza, swam in the sea
- How did you travel there? and had a really good time.
- I travelled by plane. - What did you like the most?
- That’s a difficult question. Probably the sea. Yes,
I liked the sea the most.
A Simple pastnál nincs did a kijelentő mondatokban. Ez igaz, ha semleges, neutrális a mondat, de vannak esetek, amikor
nyomatékosítani akarunk valamit és ekkor szerepel: - Why didn’t you write your homework?- But I wrote my homework.
- I don’t believe you! - Believe me! I did write my homework!!!! > De igen/Igenis
