Fluid Mechanics Teaching Assistant Deadline : Wednesday 30th of Azar

1-The density of a fluid can be expressed as a function of the distance from the free surface as below:
𝜌 = 𝑚ℎ + 280
Calculate the pressure difference between two points located at depths of 3.5m and 18m
from the free surface respectively. (h represents the distance from the free surface)
𝑘𝑔
Where : 𝑚 = 30 𝑚4

2-Water and oil are poured in an inverted cone characterized by height of 1m such that water fills
the lower half of the cone and the rest of the cone is filled by oil. The top of the cone is exposed
to atmosphere. Calculate the pressure at the bottom of the inverted cone in case half of the water
is drained away from the system.

Where : 𝛾𝑤 = 10 𝑚3 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝛾𝑜𝑖𝑙 = 9 𝑚3

3- According to the following figure, container A is filled by water. The relative density of the
manometric fluid corresponds to 2.94. For pressure of 6.6 mmHg at point A, the surface of the
fluid in the left branch of manometric tube is at rest at point B. Calculate the height of the fluid in
the right branch of the manometer in case the pressure at point A reaches 8 KPa.

to be opened. (the dimension of the gate perpendicular to the plane is unity)

5- According to the following figure, the valve is retained in every 6 meters. Regardless of the
weight of the gate, calculate the compressive force in retainer AB.

𝑠
rotating by angular velocity of 50 𝑟𝑎𝑑⁄𝑠 around the central axis simultaneously. Obtain the
relationship corresponding to the constant pressure surface for the given tank.

8-A vertical cylindrical container by diameter and height of 3m and 6m respectively is half filled by
water. Calculate the required angular velocity such that 70 percent of the bottom area of the cylinder
dries as a result of water discharge outside of the container.

9-Calculate the required horizontal acceleration of a cylindrical container such that one third of the
fluid is spilled out.
(The diameter and height of the cylinder are 1.5m and 2.3m, respectively)

10-Given the following figure, calculate the metacentric height of a floating wooden block for
rotation around both axes.
