PERFORMANCE TASK
“A Place in Time”

Introduction
In this activity, you will trace the evolutionary history of a certain organism in a place at
a particular time using the geologic timescale. As you dig deeper into its evolutionary history,
you will witness how organisms have thrived amid major changes in environmental conditions
across time.

Objective: To explore the different organisms that existed millions of years ago through a pop-
up scrapbook.

Materials
 Reference materials
 Computer
 Internet connection

Procedure
1. The entire class will be divided into periods of the geologic time scale.
2. Your group will be asked to choose a variety organism that has emerged within your
assigned geologic period.
3. Research about the evolutionary history of your preferred organism. Trace and take note
of the evolution that has occurred, if any, such as the presence of its ancient ancestors.
Also include information such as any extinction and deviation that the organism’s lineage
has experienced.
4. Brainstorm within your group as to which information, facts, and data are essential to
include in your pop-up scrapbook.
5. Some members of your group must also decide on the aesthetics or design as well as
choose the appropriate graphs and graphics that would best convey the information to the
readers.
6. Collect pertinent information, such as trivia and photos, that can make your material
interesting.
7. Cite your sources at the last page of your pop-up scrapbook.
8. Deadline: April 11, 2023
