National Service Training Program 2

REFLECTION

“PLANT A TREE TODAY AND SAVE TOMMOROW”

May 13, 2023 at the Purok Banana, Barangay Mankilam, Tagum City,
the tree planting activity was successfully accomplished by the hardworking
and dedicated students from the department of medical technology first year
students section C for the completion of NSTP 2-Civic Welfare Training
Service-2 (CWTS). I feel in seventh heaven when I arrived at the place. This
is it! The day where my classmate and I are about to plant a tree. As I wrote
this reflection I remember that the reason why I am attending this program is
just to comply the said requirement not until, I realize something after the
event.

We live in the most beautiful planet in the whole universe called earth,
a planet where we can do what ever we want, and a planet where the above
in trusted to us. I look around and as I deeply inhale, I inhale the dust that
made me cough, right after I saw some of the green grass that surround the
gym of the Purok Banana, the sun that rise directly to the gym, the sunny day,
a weather that the ray will touch your epidermal skin. It is so hot that can dry
hundred of clothes with in an hour. Luckily, I bring my own cold water to
survive an extra t-shirt to wear after planting and a plant that is brought by my
classmates from the institution to the area.

I was holding a guava sprout, a lovely thin, green, guava sprout. There
was a different kind of sprout to choose. There was also an ipil-ipil know
as Leucaena leucocephala or Leadtrees funny but I thought it was an
makahiya because of its linear oblong leaves that is similar to makahiya. We
walk about 2.5km from the gym up to the site. I carefuly hold my own plant
and thinking would this small one survived?, how would this simple action
impact the environment?. I continue walking it was actually tough journey and
hair-raising adventure because of a lot of “what if”. What if there will be a huge
pregnant snake that will bite one of the class, or what if one of my classmate
will suddenly collapsed, what if the plant will not survive. I just let go all of the
negative thought inside of my mischievous mind and focus to the goal which
is to plant the sprout with success and safe from any danger and possible
cause of death. The excitement rise when the section reach ninety-six percent
(96%) of the journey. The joy was cracked after one of my classmate
announced that this is not the end yet.

Everyone continue moving there feet one by one, the other one was
thinking about the free snack after the program as a motivation to continue the
activity. The other one think and wish that this will not the only chance to plant
a tree or should she say “to save the planet, to save mother earth”. I just nod
and agree with them and go with the flow while battling with my inner mind.
On what will happen next after tree planting, should we visit it to make sure
that they actually survived and they will be used, and meet the next
generation.

The section finally arrived at the site, one dig immediately while
Manong Joel instruct the proper planting of the sprouts. Make sure that the
land is free from grass that will steal the nutrients from the plant, dig a enough
space for the plant to place, remove the cellophane and properly dispose it or
much better to bring the cellophane after planting, put cautiously the plant on
the ground secure it by covering some soil, water the plant to freshen them
and to make them feel the new environment and to adapt the new
surrounding.

Yes! Finallly, the section C of BSMLS successfully planted forty (40)

plus of different sprout. Then the biggest realization start. I did not only
accomplished the requirements but I also contribute to our environment.
Planting one, two, or more three is not enough to be proud of and it is not
enough to say that we saved our dearly earth. With constant care, proper
disposal, and by loving our environment as we love our self I can say that at
least we try our best to save our mother earth. To our generation let us do our
best to preserve our home. To the next generation, take good care of what
you have, improve, elevate the way on how to preserve our planet earth,
cherish our home because there is no other place that feels like earth, the feel
of having our own place, that we can call home.
