WHAT DID YOU LEARN/GAIN?
10/25/21 2 Serving food, helping Each year my church in GR houses people who are
keep kids entertained homeless for a week a couple times a year. This
was the first time we were able to do this since
COVID started. People within the church make
meals for these families and I was one of the
volunteers to come in and set up dinner and help
serve the food. After dinner, all the kids get some
time to play before having to go to their rooms
and we play basketball in the gym, do puzzles,
paint nails, etc. I gained the outlook that even
those these people do not have a consistent
home, they are still some of the happiest and
grateful people I have ever encountered in my life.
10/9/21 1.5 Raking leaves My neighbor was diagnosed with a rare form of
cancer earlier this year, and he is not able to get
out and do yard work like he used to be able to
do. One of the weekends that I came home, my
brothers and I decided to go knock on their door
and ask what needed to be done. We raked up the
leaves, mowed the grass, and tidied up their plant
and flower beds, doing our best to make it look as
good as possible.
10/29/21 1 Raking leaves One of my brothers and I went back to help out
my neighbors while they were at Mayo Clinic for
appointments so they could come home to
everything being done.
11/24/21 1.5 Soup Kitchen My high school does a soup kitchen type even
every year the day before Thanksgiving to help the
community who is short on food or won’t get a
Thanksgiving meal. We do soup, casseroles, or
anything else families at the high school decide to
make. This year, I decided to make some food and
help serve it.
