Discussion:
FINITE AND INFINITE SETS
A set is finite if the number of elements in a given set is a whole number
{1,2,3,....N}, otherwise it is said to be infinite.
Finite set – can be counted Infinite set – cannot be counted
Example 1: A = { whole numbers}
A = {0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7.......} Set A is an INFINITE SET
Example 2: B = { prime numbers less than 6}
B = { 2, 3, 5} Set B is a FINITE SET
EQUAL AND EQUIVALENT SETS
Two sets are said to be Equal Sets if and only if all the elements present in both
sets are precisely the same.
Two sets are said to be Equivalent Sets if the sets have exactly the same number
of elements even if the elements are not the same. Therefore, two Equivalent Sets have
the same cardinality.
Example 1: A = { 1, 3, 5, 7} C = { 8, 4, 2, 6}
B = { 2, 4, 6, 8} D = { 1, 3, 5, 7, 9}
SET A and B are Equivalent Set SET B and C are Equal Set
SET A and D are Neither SET A and C are Equivalent Set
