Activities I. Statement of the Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
- Identify the characteristics of solid, liquid and gas.
II. Motivation
- Picture Analysis

What are these pictures?

Do you know what do we call them?
III. Discussion

Characteristics of Solid, Liquid and Gas

Solid is one of the three states of matter. It has specific color,

size, shape, and texture. The particles of solids are close
together. They move back and forth but the particles do not
change places.

Characteristics of Solid
- It has specific color (red, yellow, green, etc.)
- It has size ( big or small, long or short)
- It has shape (circle, round, rectangle, square, triangle, etc.)
- It has also texture. Texture is the roughness or smoothness,
hardness and softness of an object.
Characteristics of Liquid:
- Unlike solid, it has no definite shape. It only takes the shape
of its container.
- They can flow whether slow or fast.

- Liquids has different taste. They can be sweet, salty, sour, or

bitter.
- Liquid has different odor (bad or good smell)

Characteristics of Gas
- Gas is a type of matter that cannot be seen but it can be felt.
- Just like liquid, it has no definite shape and size. It takes the
shape of its container.
- It has no color and taste.

IV. Application
Identify the objects if what type of matter it belongs to.

1.

2.

3.

4.
V. Generalization
- Matter can be classified as solid, liquid or gas according to
their characteristics.
VI. Abstraction
1. How did you describe the solids, liquids, and gas?
2. What are the characteristics of solid, liquid, and gas?

V. Evaluation Identify the following objects if it is solid, liquid or gas. Write S if it is

Solid, L if it is Liquid, and G if it is Gas. Write your answer on your paper

1. Ball
2. Softdrinks
3. Table
4. Smoke
5. air
