CHISZ ENGLISH TEST....

GUIDELINES FOR THE

COMPOSITION MARKING.

ALTHOUGH THESE GUIDELINES HAVE BEEN PROVIDED, IT IS UP

TO INDIVIDUAL HEADS OF ENGLISH HOW THEY MARK THE
COMPOSITIONS.

1. I suggest you place the essay in a ‘grade box’ based on the

eloquence/fluency of the writing.

2. If the content is good but the spelling, grammar and punctuation

are poor, I suggest you drop the candidate into a lower grade.

3. PLEASE BE AWARE OF LEARNED / PREPARED / MODEL

ANSWERS , given to the pupils by a teacher. These need to be
heavily penalised and a note prepared for the Headmaster of that
school.

4. Do not allow a pupil to ‘FORCE’ an inappropriate response into a

title.

5. Penalise a pupil who writes off the point but do allow for excellent
interpretation and imagination.

6. Penalise lengthy compositions or very short ones. They should be

able to write within the designated number of words.

7. In marking the composition, please use the full range of marks .

Credit excellence with full marks and penalise heavily for very
poor work. We would like to see a good spread of marks.
