Task 1/2: Reflect on how your work fits your audience (U10:LO3_AC3.1)
Please answer ALL boxes in order to pass this section. You can include screen grabs and links to help. This section is about
evaluating how your work fits the audience you have chosen to target. Answer all three questions fully with supporting
images, links and evidence of audience/survey feedback.

Choose THREE existing professional versions aimed at the same audience/genre as your work. How does yours compare to them? BE
SPECIFIC.

Example 1 of 3
URL/link, image and description
https://youtu.be/FqnAV6tkwzA Minecraft relaxing fireplace

Something your loop does as well

My loop is also of a fireplace and has a window in a similar place to this loop. Despite not having a festive
Atmosphere, they both share the same demographic as they are both set in a lounge with a fire at night.

Something the example does better

This example has a fox by the fire, something I would have liked to include, not necessarily a fox but an animal by the
Fire. The fire is also better as it is a full animation, instead of an animation on top on a still fire.
How you would improve yours based on this
I would add an animal by the fire, I believe it goes with the theme of mine and I could add a breathing effect on it.

Example 2 of 3
URL/link, image and description
https://youtu.be/NW5-QMnF6PY Snowy jazz cafe ambient loop.

Something your loop does as well

This ambient loop shares the same theme as mine as it is very festive. It also shares the same technique of the snow being
added in with aftereffects, another technique this example shares with my piece is that there moving steam coming of a
cup. The only difference is the cup is also added in with aftereffects.
Something the example does better
The steam coming of the cup looks better as it was added in with Adobe aftereffects, mine was stop motion animated in Adobe
Animate. Another thing this example does better is it shows more of the outside, mine is just a small window.
How you would improve yours based on this
Using this as inspiration, I would add the steam coming off the cup in aftereffects, as I feel it looks a lot more realistic and
Professional.
Example 3 of 3
URL/link, image and description
https://youtu.be/wf4AoGYsZys Rainy jazz with relaxing jazz music

Something your loop does as well

This loop has a few similarities to my piece and is one of my inspirations when I was making it. They are both inside at
Night, while relaxing music plays and it is raining or snowing outside. There is steam coming from the cups as well but added with
after effects.
Something the example does better
We can clearly see that it is raining outside, but we can also hear it, this is better as it makes the loop feel more real so
that the audience can close their eyes and feel they are there. The steam is better than mine as it looks more realistic
due to the fact that Adobe after effects was used. Another note is that there is a megaphone making the music diegetic.
How you would improve yours based on this
I would add a radio in the corner, making the music diegetic. This makes the experience more immersive as you are put into this
world where you can see and hear everything. To support this I would add some snow/rain effects to make snow outside have a
Extra sense.

what can I improve on? 13 responses

1. maybe add another keyframe for the animated smoke
2. The fire and steam from the mug is jittery, maybe add some extra stop-mo frames to make it more
fluent.
3. maybe the snow?
4. make the smoke through after effects
5. More breakdowns in the animated stop motion assets to smooth movement.
6. I think the hands on the clock glitched for a second
7. Wished the pages of the book could have been flipped.
8. Lyrics
9. maybe a remix
10. more images
11. More animation.
12. Nothing
13. Slower music to go with the feel of the room. Colours used and fire on.
What patterns or trends did you notice from your audience feedback?
I believe that the audience enjoyed the themes and idea but wanted more substance. A lot of them replied well to the
Use of my loop being Festive. Something that some of the audience said was that they wanted more, more things to move
More things to include. Suggestions range from books flipping to adding in more animation and pictures. Another piece of
Feedback I could use was, the music choice was generally enjoyed for its theming but could have been more relaxing.
What did you learn from thinking about this?
The audience wanted more, maybe this means I didn’t include enough, but overall, the feedback was positive, with 69.2%
Of the audience giving it a 5 out of 5. This means that overall, the loop was enjoyable but had room for improvement.
How might you make improvements to your work based on what you’ve learnt from your audience? Be specific
I would change the steam from Stop Motion, to being added with aftereffects. This is a suggestion from one of my audience
And is used in a lot of professional examples. Another thing I would change is the music, it would still be something festive,
But it will be more of a relaxing song, maybe some piano music.
Conclusions on your audience feedback
Based on what you’ve learnt above, write about whether your feel your work is fit for your specific audience overall.
Remember to say why and prove it
I feel my piece does work for my audience demographic as I feel it is a standard festive ambient loop that has festive music
and a fireplace. It is aimed for people in Christmas time and is more of a seasonal loop than most loops. Its target audience
consists of people who want to relax, focus or sleep in the festive seasons, ages ranging from 14 to 70 plus. This is because it is
quite a universal cozy ambient loop and setting that there isn’t a specific group in society whop would only use this. I think.
there is room for improvement, like the steam can be added with aftereffects, but overall I am happy with how it turned out.
My audience said they like the festive theme and that I could have used different more relaxing music.

Task 2/2: Reflect on your own skills, processes and personal development (U10:LO3_AC3.2)
Please answer ALL sections fully in order to pass this section. You can include screen grabs and links to help. This section is
about how you feel your creative abilities and processes have improved during this assignment. Answer all sections fully
with supporting images (including your own screen grabs: CMD+SHIFT+4), links and any other evidence you feel is relevant

Talk about three issues you had during production. These could be based on practical parts of the work, supporting tasks
such as research or even audience surveys.
When I first found the image, I was going to use, I needed to crop the image, but when I went to do this I had lost
1.
the image.

2. Another issue I had was trying to cut out the window in Adobe After effects.

3. I found It difficult trying to make the video loop

How/to what degree were you able to resolve each issue?

I spent ages trying to find the picture and realised I had screen shot it, but it was a very zoomed in screen shot of a
1.
detail I wanted to look a bit closer it. Using this screen shot I reverse searched the image into google and found it.
I asked a Lecture to help me out, I feel that I required help ion this part as I wasn’t very confident with using
2.
Adobe After effects at this point.

3. I copied the start frame and made it the last so that the loop looked clean and professional.

Write about at least three things which well during the whole process?
Talk about what you felt went particularly well about them.
I think that making the mushroom people and adding the mysterious white eyes went well. The eyes on the
mushroom people were simple to do, but I really bring the characters to life when I did. Adding the white eyes in
1.
the boxes was probably the easiest thing to do, but they where quite effective, giving the loop more of a narrative
and personality.
2. I enjoyed adding the snow to the outside, as I feel this really adds to the festive theme and is quite relaxing to
watch. The snow isn’t too fast and is at a quite gentle pace, making the inside making it feel very appealing to be
inside and not outside.
I enjoyed making the survey because I really like getting feedback from the audience on how I can improve my
3.
work because sometimes the audience can think of some really cool ideas that I could use.

And finally, write a small amount about what you enjoyed about the project which you could possibly use in future work
or assignments. This could be from research, design or your practical production process. Feel free to use screen grabs.
I enjoyed researching professional examples and comparing my work to them, this was good for ideas and inspiration
for work I could do in the future. I also enjoyed looking into existing examples of ambient loops online as I feel that it
gave me a deeper understanding on what a good ambient loop looks like, so I took a lot away from this.
I also enjoyed making the survey and getting feedback from the audience as I feel their input is very important because
it gives me the opportunity to sculpt my work into something people would want to watch and would enjoy. I have
taken non practical skills like time management, as I had to try and complete all my work in time, this will be a useful
skill for the future. Another skill I have learnt, is some practical software skills on Adobe After effects, while not
confident whilst making this project, I have learnt a thing or two after using it and feel that this information will
definitely help me in future projects. Overall, I have enjoyed making my ambient loop and will use the skills I have learnt
from it in the future.
