The advantage of un- controlled rectification into the DC link is that only active power is drawn from the line. A con- stant DC voltage Us is maintained in the DC link. The inverter SSR (self-commutated converter) switches the constant DC link voltage Us through to the output terminals in cyclic succession and ensures through pulse-width modula- tion that the output voltage can be steplessly varied between 0 and Uy and the output fre- quency between 0 and fax. Different pulse systems are employed to cover the full range. Figures §.1 to 5.16 are block diagrams of the various SIMOVERT P converters. © Input section and DC link 6SE3540 to 6SE3626 ‘The supply system is connected to terminals U1, V1, W1. The input circuit of the converter consists of main switch -Q1 (in cabinet units only), input fuses -F1, -F2, -F3, main contactor -K1, input reactor -L1 (which limits phase effects on the system) and uncontrolled rectifier NSU. Capacitor -C in the DC link provides an energy store, decouples the inverter from the system ‘and at the same time supplies the reactive current required by the motor. DC link fuses -F11, -F21 and -F31 are connected between the DC link and the inverter input. ‘Two parallel fuses per inverter phase (-F1W/-F12, -F21//-F22, -F31/-F32) are used in convert- ers rated from 150 kVA upwards. 6SE3630 to 6SE3652 ‘These converters each consist of a parallel connection of components of two converters of type 6SE3615 to 6SE3626. ‘The supply system is connected to terminals 1U1, 1V1, 1W1 and 2U1, 2V1, 2W1. The input circuit of the converter consists of the two main switches -Q11, -Q12 with input fuse triplets -F1, -F2, -F3, main contactors -K11, -K12, input reactors -L11, -L12 (which limit phase effects cn the system) and uncontrolled rectifiers -A41, -A42, Capacitor -C in the DC link provides an energy store, decouples the inverter from the system and at the same time supplies the reactive current required by the motor. DC link fuses (pairs of parallel-connected fuses) -A2-F11/F12, -A2-F21I-F22, -A2-FOW-F32 and -A3-F1 1/-F12, -A3-F31//-F32 are arranged between the DC link and the inverter input. Siemens AG SWE 459 075.9120 76 JTa101 a SNOVERT ? Deserpton 6SE3660 and 6SE3678 ‘The converter types 6SE3660 and 6SE3678 each consist of the components of two rectifiers in parallel and three inverters in parallel. The supply system is connected to terminals 1U1, 1V1, 1W1 and 2U1, 2V1, 2W1. The input Circuit of the converter consists of the two main switches -Q11, -Q12, main contactors -K11, -K12, -K21, -K22, input reactors -L11, -L12 (to limit phase effects on the system) and uncon- trolled rectifiers -Ad1, -A42 with fuses -F1. Capacitor -C in the DC link provides an energy store, decouples the inverter from the system and at the same time covers the reactive-current demand of the motor. DC link fuses (pairs of parallel-connected fuses) A2-F11//-F12, -A2-F21//-F22, -A2-F31-F32; “AS-F1U-F12, -A3-F211/-F22, -A3-F31-F32 and “AA-FTUI-F12, -A4-F21-F22, -A4-F31/-F32 are arranged between the DC link and the inverter input. © Inverter SSR 6SE3540 to 6SE3626 The inverter SSR consists of three identical inverter modules (-A111.to A322 for 40 - 145 kVA; “A14 to -A34 for 180 - 263 kVA) which are implemented with power transistors. Described simply, the inverters are static switches which alternately connect the phase output to the positive and negative bars of the DC link in a cycle determined by the electronics. 6SE3630 to 6SE3652 The inverter SSR consits of 2 x 3 identical inverter modules (-A2-A14, -A2-A24, -A2-A34 and “A3-A14, “A3-A24, -A3-A34) which are implemented with power transistors. Described simply, the inverters are static switches which alternately connect the phase output to the positive and negative bars of the DC link in a cycle determined by the electronics. ‘The output of each phase is taken through an output reactor (-A2-L3, -A3-L3) which smooths the converter output current and also decouples the parallel-connected inverters. 6SE3660 to 6SE3678 In this case the inverter SSR consists of 3 x 3 identical inverter modules (-A2-A14, -A2-A24, ~A2-A3A; -A3-A14, -A3-A24, -A3-A34 and -Ad-A14, -Ad-A24, -Ad-A34) which are implemented with power transistors. Described simply, the inverters are static switches which alternately connect the phase output to the positive and negative bars of the DC link in a cycle determined by the electronics. ‘The output of each phase is taken through an output reactor (-A2-L3, -A3-L3, -Ad-L3) which ‘smooths the converter output current and also decouples the parallel-connected inverters. 92 Siemens AG SWE 459 075.9:2076 JTa-101 'SMOVERT P Description IPE AC S060 He 400 V +10 %6/-15 5% IPE ACSOI60 Hz 380 and 415V £10% inna lee IEaee <<1> Operator sane! r dagnss, const <18> Terminal or pute reas Sueno seta and wagon! sang S182 Deum us <2> farce POs 5193 Man power sup 52. The harmonic currents are limited by the output reactor and the leakage inductance of the connected load. They must not exceed certain values since the maximum permissible peak current of the converter/inverter will otherwise be exceeded. The lower the leakage inductance of the load, the higher the harmonic currents and thus the peak ‘currents. lt standard squirrel-cage motors are used as converterfinverter loads, the leakage inductance will normally not drop to impermissibly low values, provided that the converter/inverter types and motor types have been matched correctly. 5.4 Converter versions for braking/generator operation ‘The converter output provides a three-phase system of variable voltage and frequency. The ‘motors connected can be operated both in the motor and the generator mode as if they were supplied by a sinusoidal system. Generator operation may occur ~ during overhauling load operation beyond the converter-synchronous speed, e.g. when the hook load of hoisting gear is lowered. ~ when the converter frequency is reduced during braking at a rate at which the motor op- ‘erates in the supersynchronous range and thus as a generator. On transition from motor to generator mode, the phase angle between the motor voltage and current exceeds 90°. As a result of this, the flow direction of the current and thus of the power in the DC-link circuit is reversed, The diode rectifier (NSU) in the standard converter does not, however, allow the current flow direction to be reversed. This means that dynamic braking torque can only be developed by the motor within the limits of the permissible converter and motor losses. The permissible braking torque at rated frequency is approximately 2 to 6 % of the motor torque. It @ higher dynamic braking torque is required (e.g. for centrifuges), one of the following con- verter versions must be provided: — Chopper resistor in the DC link (PW version). In this case the dynamic braking energy is converted into heat. Chopper resistor (PW version) Fig. 5.21 shows the block diagram of the chopper resistor PW. NSU Inverter control system Ics ssR Fig. 5.21 Pulse-width-modulated converter with chopper resistor ‘The chopper GS intermittently connects resistor Rg across the DC link by appropriately driving the base of the chopper transistor. IF regenerative power is available at the converter output, it causes an increase in the DC link voltage Ug. A voltage controller controls the pulse/pause ratio of brake resistor Rg as neces- sary to ensure that the DC link voltage Ug remains within the permissible range. The control system also ensures that the chopper resistor is off during motor operation and under no-load conditions, ‘The resistance values and the continuous and maximum load for the chopper-resistor combi- ‘ations integrated in the converter units are given in Table 5.1. The possible braking power can be increased by connecting additional external resistors in parallel. The data for externally mounted brake resistor equipment can be found in Cata- log DAG6. The lowest permissible values of the external brake resistors are also given in Ta- bie 5.1 ‘Siemens AG SWE 459 075.9120.76 JTa-101 115; [SMOVERT P Description NOTE ‘The peak output values specified in Table 5.1 are only available for a 6-second period from the unloaded state. Regeneration to the system (NGP version) In this case, the diode rectifier of the standard converter unit is replaced by two fully-controlled line-side converters in circulating-current-free inverse-parallel connection (see Fig. 5.22). Closed and ‘open-loop control bic ies Fig 522 Converter unit wth NGP for regeneration tothe line In motor operation, the forward bridge circuit carries the DC link current and is triggered for maximum output. In generator operation, the inverse bridge takes the DC link current with reverse polarity and is triggered for inverter operation. In order to avoid the inverter stability imit, the DC link voltage is reduced by approximately 15 % prior to transition from the motor to the generator mode. This means that with generator operation above 85 % of the speed/frequency, the motor will increasingly be operated in the weak-field range with a corresponding reduction in torque. ‘An input transformer for stepping up the supply voltage is not normally provided, but may be required in order to utilize the full generator power at full speed Gate control of the line-commutated thyristors is provided by the supplementary DLC (DC link controller) module in the subrack (see Section 4.4) Siemens AG SWE 459 075912076 JTe-101 u7 SIMOVERT P Daserption 6 Appendix 6.1. Notes on electrostatic charges Electrostatic sensitive devices (ESD) Generally, PCBs should not be touched unless work has to be carried ‘out on them. Before touching a PCB, the person carrying out the work must himself be electrostatically discharged. The simplest way of doing this is to touch an electrically conducting earthed object immediately beforehand. PCBs must not be allowed to come in contact with electrically insulating materials such as plastic fol, insulating table tops or clothing made of synthetic fibres. PCBs may only be set down or stored on electrically conducting surfaces. When carrying out soldering jobs on PCBs, use an EGB soldering iron or at least make sure that the soldering tip has been earthed. PCBs and electronic components should generally be packed in electrically conducting containers (such as metalized-plastic boxes or metal cans) before being stored or shipped. IF the use of non-conducting packing containers cannot be avoided, PCBs must be wrapped in ‘a conducting material before being put in them. Examples of such materials include electrically ‘conducting foam rubber or household aluminium foil.
