ANIMAL PRODUCTION

Agriculture / Farming is the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to produce food and other products.

Two types of agricultural production: 1) PLANT PRODUCTION 2) ANIMAL PRODUCTION

ANIMAL PRODUCTION or ANIMAL HUSBANDRY


- is the branch of agriculture concerned with the rearing of livestock. It is very important to us.

IMPORTANCE OF LIVESTOCK ANIMALS:


- Animals provide food, e.g. meat, milk and eggs
- Animals provide raw materials for industry, e.g. leather, fur, wool, bones, ivory, ....
- Animals provide manure, e.g. feces, slurry, cow dung, guano, ....
- Animals provide workforce, e.g. pack animals (animals used to carry loads) - camel packing, donkey packing, .....
- Animals provide transport, e.g. dog sleding, horse riding, camel riding, .....

Animal husbandry is classified according to the commercial purposes as:
