Chapter 1

Introduction

According to psychiatry, counseling has affected children and teens for generations. But
we've only recently understood bullying's mental health effects, which extend beyond the
victim to bystanders who witness and bully themselves.

Bullying is one of the most well-known crimes here in the Philippines. A lot of students
have experienced different kinds of bullying, like cyberbullying, physical bullying, and
verbal bullying. This kind of bullying will affect an individual's mental health. Students
who experience bullying have a high percentage of depression and anxiety, which might
lead them to commit suicide. This kind of trait will lower the student's self-esteem and
confidence. We carried out this study to raise awareness among individuals who are
bullied and those who bully others. They must be informed and honest, since someone
who has been bullied may end their own life. These days, kids bully someone out of
boredom or out of a desire to threaten them with taking money from them. There are
several reasons why youngsters today are pitiful: they harass and threaten someone
when they lack strength. This is why we must eradicate bullying and raise awareness.

Why?what? how? Bullying and its impact on 7th grade kids' mental health at ALIIS
INTEGRATED SCHOOL From what I can see, there is some bullying here, but it's not
really bad considering the students aren't actually verbally and physically hurting one
another. But why? Numerous students are still sufferng. Bullying can take many different
forms; for example, cyberbullying involves doing anything online in an effort to
humiliate, threaten, or harm another person. What motivates people to engage in
behavior like cyberbullying? As a kid who has experienced cyberbullying, you just need
to stay away from the bullies who have been attempting to threaten you. As I previously
stated, there are ways to avoid situations like this. We need to spread awareness to
prevent the deaths of people around the world. Suicides are increasing every day, and
some of the reasons for this increase are bullying, anxiety, and depression.

These days, we must educate young children under the age of ten about bullying. Not
knowing night and day beforehand, most children today only use their phones and
spend all of their time in their rooms, which can disrupt a person's mental health. What
they see online they also accurately imitate, and this kind of circumstance can be
manipulative.

We hear a lot of rumors about people who work in Dubai or other places where their
bosses threaten them and also use violence to frighten people. This is the reason why we
need to teach young children about bullying. Not only do kids bully others, but also
adults.

According to psychiatry and behavioral sciences Bullying often leaves us with lingering
feelings, turning into anger towards others or ourselves. When one goes through
bullying over a long period of time, they may begin to blame themselves for being
bullied. Thinking thoughts such as “If I wasn’t so ugly, people would leave me alone,” or
“If I tried harder, people wouldn’t make fun of me.” The types of thoughts can change
how we see and feel about ourselves and leave long-term impacts.

In today's world, many people are aware of the importance of educating their
children to respect others as they grow up and that students must also be taught to
refrain from criticizing others in order for their children to develop respect for others
and to avoid bullying in the near future.

Review of Realated Literature and Studies

This chapter will discuss the prevalence of bullying from 2019 to 2023. It also
illustrates how bullying actually affects kids' mental healt.

Bullying

According to university of Chicago Press journals school bullying is an important social

problem with serious short‐term and long‐term implications for physical and mental
health. Bullies tend to be aggressive and delinquent, whereas victims tend to be anxious
and depressed. School‐based antibullying programs are effective in reducing bullying
and being bullied.

These are the several forms of bullying, including:

 cyberbullying,
 prejudicial bullying,
 sexual bullying, and
 verbal bullying.

Many people suffer this type of bullying but are just unaware of it. This type of bullying
is well-known in every culture.

According to national bullying prevention center bullying is a major problem for children. There
are well-defined risk factors for bullying that are individual and social. Beyond the
immediate trauma of experiencing bullying.( Paediatrics and child health, 2010 )

report being bullied. (National Center for Educational Statistics, 2019 ) A higher
percentage of male than of female students report being physically bullied (6% vs. 4%),
whereas a higher percentage of female than of male students reported being the subjects
of rumors (18% vs. 9%) and being excluded from activities on purpose (7% vs. 4%).

According to the Inquiner gatchalian expressed disbelief as he presided over Monday’s
hearing of the Senate committee on basic education, where he mentioned the
information on bullying from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA
panel chair stressed that it is safe to say that 17.5 million students have been bullied
across the Philippines. This figure was confirmed by the Child Protection Network
Foundation (CPNF) during the hearing 2023.

Acomparative analysis of the years between 2019 and 2023 demonstratesthat only 20.2%
ofyoung students report being bullied in 2019,while the number of bullies is rising from
2019 to 2023

We Filipinos have a tendency to trust what we hear, therefore we often criticize

others without understanding the full circumstances of their lives. We then tell the
person we are criticizing stories about how we make fun of her and even worse things.
Bullying has gotten worse this year, as we can observe if we pay closer attention to the
people around us; in situations like this, students also experience verbal bullying.

According to jhonard rellian Bullying affects our mental health because when we are
bullied we will not be able to focus on learning and it will also affect our studies. So
others blame themselves because they cannot defend themselves and become depressed.
and they will not come out of their house without eating and will think of suicide. let's
really be careful in today's times because of the bulying in our lives and let's be strong in
ourselves and to defend ourselves in bad people.
