2 Safety
2.1 Intended use
This spreader is designed to hoist loads that need space between the lifting points and the spreader.
Examples of such loads are open top containers, flat rack containers, et cetera.
The overheight spreader is suspended under the crane by means of a top spreader. The twistlocks in the
end beams of the top spreader lock into the corner pockets of the overheight spreader.
Warning; Electricity
Risk of electric shock
\\fs01h\User-gen\SH\120-MANUAL\043\PROJECTS\OHSIV-E\CONTECAR007-010\English\00.00.00EH-.docx
8
Note:
Replace the labels on the equipment when they become faded or damaged.
• Obey the safety regulations in this manual. Incorrect use of the overheight spreader can cause personal
injury and damage to property, and may void the warranty.
• Obey the regulations of the local laws concerning health and safety.

2.4.3 Safety equipment and warning devices
On the overheight spreader the following safety equipment and warning devices are installed:
• Warning lights
Warning:
Do not disassemble or disable the safety equipment.
Do not use the overheight spreader when the safety equipment is not working.
Warning lights
The overheight spreader has two lamp units. When a sensor becomes active, the related lamp(s) come(s)
on. Both lamp units show the same information. The intensity of the lamps are adjustable with the display in
the leg of the overheight spreader.

3 Description
3.1 Spreader description
The OHSIV is the fourth generation of overheight spreaders.
This generation has a small power pack and an accumulator that supplies hydraulic power to the twistlock
cylinders.

3.4 Lamp units
Note:
Refer to the chapter on safety regulations for the meaning of the warning light signals.
The lamp units are attached to the mid frame of the overheight spreader. Because of their location, even a
(long-)twin top spreader does not block the view on the lamp units from the crane.
The OHSIV overheight spreader has four solar panels. These are installed on both sides of the mid frame.
The angle of the solar panels is optimized to even charge the batteries during the winter, when the sun is low
in the sky.
\\fs01h\User-gen\SH\120-MANUAL\043\PROJECTS\OHSIV-E\CONTECAR007-010\English\00.00.00EH-.docx
14
The solar panels on one side of the mid frame are connected serially. The pairs are connected in parallel.
This way, one pair of solar panels serves as a redundant system for the other pair, meaning that the
batteries can charge even when a panel is obstructed or damaged.
3.6 Batteries
The spreader has four batteries installed in a battery unit. The batteries are divided in two pairs of two
batteries. The batteries of a pair are connected in series. The pairs are connected in parallel. Thus, one pair
functions as a redundant system for the other pair if a battery is damaged.
To see the status of the batteries, use the display embedded in the spreader leg. The display shows the
output voltage of the batteries.

Note:
Obey local laws and regulations concerning health and safety.
For the transportation of the overheight spreader, the items that follow are optional:
• Transportation vehicle
• Trailer (e.g. flatbed trailer, lowbed trailer, trailer with pockets for this overheight spreader)
• Lifting equipment (e.g. crane, overhead crane)
• Dunnage or corner castings (applicable for this type of twistlocks)
• Lashing materials
• Keep unauthorized persons and vehicles away from the installation site.

8 Troubleshooting
Symptom: Lamps do not come on for the state locked, unlocked or landed
Possible cause Solution
The adjustment of the sensor is incorrect • Adjust the sensor distance.
This is the distance between the sensor and the
surface that it must see.
One or more sensors are defective • Do a check of the sensor signal on the display in the
leg. Refer to the user manual of the display.
• Examine the electrical wires.
If necessary, replace the electrical wires.
• Examine the sensors
If necessary, replace the sensors.
The electrical wires of a lamp are loose • Connect the electrical wires again.
The electrical wires of a lamp are broken • Replace the electrical wires.
The lamp is defective • Replace the defective lamp.
