Dear Mr & Mrs Khan,
As we near the end of the second term, we are delighted to share with you this report that provides information on Ayaan’s attainment
this term, in each of his subjects.
Teacher Target
This is the grade that Ayaan should be aiming to achieve in the final examination. Target grades are designed to be challenging but
realistic. This is based initially on the CAT4 test taken at the beginning of Year 10, adjusted where appropriate in the light of other
assessment evidence and his teacher’s judgement. Students in the early stages of a course would be expected to be heading towards
this target grade but not always achieving it. The target grade will be in line with or above the current grade on all reports. This is to
ensure that both students and staff are being aspirational in the targets that they set. The only time when the target grade could
possibly be below the current grade is on the midterm 1 report (as it is early in the year) and the end of term 3 report (to celebrate
success).
Currently on track for
‘Attainment: Currently on track for’ is based on the outcomes of ongoing assessments and/or the results of common standardised
assessments this half term. These are measured in IGCSE grades – A*, A, B, C, D, E, F, G or for Photography and Art – 9, 8, 7, 6, 5,
4, 3, 2, 1. For Co-ordinated Science, which is equivalent to two IGCSEs, the grade set used is A*A* - GG. N/A is recorded for students
who have missed key assessments this half term. There will be no ‘Attainment: Currently on track for’ grade for core PE as this is a
non-examined course. This grade represents how they are likely to perform at the end of the course if they continue working as they
are now.
Attitudinal Behaviours and Organisational Behaviours
In this end term report, we are providing information on your son’s Behaviours for Learning. The two behaviours for learning are
Attitudinal Behaviours and Organisational Behaviours and these enable you to see how well Ayaan is engaging with his studies. For
further information please see the document titled Secondary Parents: Secondary Parents: GIS Behaviours for Learning
Guidance for an explanation of this system and a link to the rubric that will be used.
Attitudinal Behaviours and Organisational Behaviours are measured as follows:

We have ensured that our high expectations are ‘built in’ to these descriptors. We know high expectations are a crucial driver of student
learning and these high expectations mean that ‘meeting expectations’ will not (and should not) be an easy rating for students to attain.
Therefore, especially at the start of the year, ratings of ‘Working Towards Expectations’ should not be seen as ‘bad’. Instead they
are an opportunity and clear area for development that should be focussed on and supported. It is intended that the Behaviours for
Learning will lend themselves to target setting as these key behaviours will help students continually learn and develop.
Commendations and Recommendations
The purpose of the commendation is to inform you about particular areas that Ayaan has done particularly well in. This could be a skill
he has enhanced or perhaps some key understandings that he has developed. This is something that should be celebrated.
The purpose of the recommendation is to inform you about something that Ayaan now needs to focus on. This should be something
tangible that he can work on and refer back to over the next term. In addition, the recommendation will also identify a clear action that
he needs to take in order to be successful. It is hoped that from this action, you will know exactly what actions Ayaan needs to take and
how you as a parent can support him.
Percentage Attendance
This is the percentage of morning and afternoon sessions attended by Ayaan from the beginning of this term to the issue of this report.
Students are also considered to be present if they are out of School but are participating in educational visits or sporting events
approved by the school.

Sticker Award Level


At GIS every faculty has its own recognition stickers which are given out in lessons, tutor times and also during CCAs. Teachers use
these stickers to recognise outstanding achievement and for when students have gone above and beyond in their contributions and
efforts. The students in Year 7-11 collect these stickers in their homework diaries and achieve sticker award levels as follows: 40 =
Bronze, 70 = Silver, 100 = Gold and 200 = Platinum.
