on how you deal with the situation? (student’s answer may vary)

Thank you! That was very brave of you to stand on what

is the right.

(see attached PowerPoint presentation)

The leading cause of death around the world are diseases

affecting the respiratory and circulatory systems. One of
the reason of such diseases is cigarette smoking.
Cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ in the body,
causing many illnesses and affecting health in general.

The negative effects of smoking on the circulatory system

include increased heart rate and blood pressure,
coronary heart disease, arteriosclerosis, and vascular
diseases.

What happens to your circulatory system when you

smoke? Chemicals in cigarette smoke cause the blood to
thicken and from clots inside the veins and arteries. It
becomes extremely difficult for blood to circulate in all
parts of the body, depriving the body from oxygen and
nutrients. The blockage from a clot can lead to a heart
attack and sudden death.

The respiratory system illnesses caused by cigarette

smoking are chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma,
cough, colds, lung cancer, and other respiratory
infections.

What happens to your respiratory system when you

smoke? Smoking inflames, irritates the lungs and damage
the air sacs or alveoli. The lungs become fibrous and
making it harder for people to expand their lungs fully
with inhalation. Less lung tissue and less expansion
means less oxygen getting to all places it needed. That’s
why smokers often have a problem on shortness of
breath.

Government warning: Cigarette smoking is dangerous to

your health.

What is written on a pack of cigarette? To inform the public about the dangers caused cigarette
smoking to our body.

Okay, very good! What is the purpose of the said label?

Excellent! Yes, the warnings on cigarette pack is to inform

or give awareness to the public about the negative effects High blood pressure, coronary heart disease, and
brought by smoking on the circulatory system, arteriosclerosis.
respiratory system, and other systems of the body.

Now let’s have a short recap of our lesson today.

What are the diseases/illnesses that affects the

circulatory system brought by smoking and other Asthma, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer, and emphysema.
unhealthy lifestyle?

Very good! The diseases/illnesses of the circulatory

systems include the high blood pressure, coronary heart
disease, arteriosclerosis, and other vascular diseases.
We can take good care of our respiratory system by

chronic bronchitis, cough, lung cancer, emphysema, and
other respiratory infection. Very good!

So will you take good care of your respiratory and

circulatory systems in order to prevent illnesses and
diseases?

Very good! The best way to prevent diseases in the

cardiorespiratory systems is to have a healthy lifestyle,
which includes None ma’am
• healthy diet and regular exercise
• adequate rest and proper hygiene
• avoid vices such as cigarette smoking and alcohol
drinking

Before we proceed to our short quiz, do you have any

questions or any clarifications regarding our lesson
