Disaster: Who’s Accountable?

The NDRRMC is crucial to the nation's ability to withstand calamities and quickly
recover after them. National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council
(NDRRMC) is a government institution that is incharge of preparing for and responding
to natural disasters like as typhoons and earthquakes.

They employ techniques to lessen the effects of catastrophes and boost the
resilience of both the federal government and local government units (LGUs) in the case
of catastrophes. In its capacity as a policy-making body, the NDRRMC is tasked with
developing a national disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) framework that
enables a "comprehensive, all hazards, multi-sectoral, inter-agency and community-
based approach to disaster risk reduction and management."

Increasing community understanding of the dangers and effects of all hazards

and risks is one of the key objectives of disaster preparation.

As the level of awareness in the community rises, they will become more
prepared and aware of how to minimize dangers and respond to disasters. The
Philippine Information Agency creates and executes information, education, and
communication initiatives and programs on a local as well as a national level with the
assistance of its implementation partners, the PNP, DOH, PAGASA, and PHIVOLCS.
People will be better prepared for disasters if they can understand these disasters on a
basic level.

Disasters, both natural and man-made, are inevitable. Every disaster ends with
the question of accountability and readiness being swiftly forgotten, much like a flood or
a hurricane that passes over.
