You could also think about grouping the more dominant students together and the more passive

students together, so that at least only ONE of the dominant students is giving feedback. Generally,
pair and group work enables students to participate even if they are not the ones shouting out the
answers. Alternatively you can also give your students ‘tokens’. Every time they speak they have to
turn one in. When they run out they can´t speak anymore.

You can look at how you are teaching and whether it's working in the class.  If you feel that that they
are not enjoying, understanding the class, you should change the lesson plan to make it work. You
can also consider stopping the activity altogether. Do something fun that gets the students moving
and re-animated. It could be “that time of the day” when students are half-asleep, or it could be that
they just don’t understand what you want from them. After reanimating the class, go back to what
you were doing, and try to explain in a different way. If you still get no response, scrap the activity
altogether – it is obviously beyond them!

Firstly you would have to look at the class and see if everybody was comfortable working with each
other taking into account race, religion and personality. You have to get to know your students and
remind them that this is an educational environment where it is clear of “personal issues”.

You have to look at if they are bored in the lesson and losing interest in what you are teaching – do
you need to do more to keep them engaged in the process?

Remind them that this is no place to inflict their racist views in the classroom, this is a learning
environment.  If they proceed not to listen then you need to follow procedure and send them to the
principal or headmaster. If they are adults, you need t speak to them in private first.

You can prepare work for the students that are struggling to make sure that they can achieve what is
expected of them. You could also consider grouping stronger students together so you are free to
work with and support the ones that need your help.

You need to thank them for their feedback and provide more activities where the teacher-talking-
time is minimised and student-talking time maximised. You could also point out that even though
the students are not speaking directly to YOU, the teacher, they are still speaking a lot. Students
tend to consider the teacher as the only valid co-communicator, and are often not even aware of
how much they are talking with their partner. You may want to explain the methodology and make
sure they are aware of how important it is to speak in English in their pair/group work

The first step is to make sure that you give them feedback on their homework. This, in itself, is an
incentive for them to carry on doing it. You can also grade it and make it part of the final grade.  You
also need to check with your director or coordinator to make sure you follow the correct procedure.

It is very unprofessional to comment on another person’s teaching method and you should not do
that. You should also not allow your students to make any type of comments about the admin staff
or faculty.

You should never manipulate any record for any student and explain that to them. You could also
talk to your coordinator or director about this situation.

I would like to talk to him/her in person. I will point out the excellent results and how satisfied I am
with the student then ask about his/her schedule/work. If the situation is really hard on his/her side,
I will talk to the management to place this student in another class in a more suitable time for
him/her.
