COA VEGETABLE PRODUCTION

COA Vegetable Production produce various commodities such long yard beans

(sitaw), ampalaya, eggplant fingerlady (okra), tomato, onion and mustard. It occupies

the building in building in front, side right and the back area of the COA. The production

is currently assigned under the personnel “Matk Lester” or also known as “Kuya Mac”.

The students started their 4th week of practicum at the learning learning site June 26,

2023 to June 30, 2023.

Clearing of Area

The first day in the morning, the student trainees cleared the area of the learning

site. Clearing of area included the trimming of dill plants and cleaning the path way in
the middle of the COA building. Trimming was performed to avoid the dill plants from

blocking the sunlight towards the crops. Additionally, it will provide a good aesthetical

view in the learning site. Cutting grass scissors from the college was used to trim the dill

plants. Dill plants was trimmed with approximated 2 ft. height just enough to make it

appear as an ornamental in the pathway of the building. Afterwards, the weeds that

inhibits the pathway was also handpick.

Transplanting and Replanting

In the next day, the student performed transplanting and replanting. The chili’s

planted on polybag that failed to germinate was replanted by a new chili seedlings.

Afterwards, the onions planted on the polybag that failed to germinate was also replace

by new onion seedlings. Lastly, eggplant and ladyfingers that was planted on polybag

was transplanted on the soil in front of the COA building to give the crops enough space

to grow.

Seed Sowing

Another activity in the learning site was seed sowing. Student trainees directly

planted the mustard seeds in the mulching polybag around the corridor of the COA

building. Each hole was planted with 2 seeds with a deep of 1 inch and was poured with

enough water afterwards.

Watering

Watering at the learning site is done during the morning and late afternoon

depending on the weather. The student trainees utilized the water on the water tank

and manually watered the plants using watering can and bucket.

Weeding

Weeding was also performed in the learning site. Tall grasses that covers the

polybags were trimmed. While weeds that inhibits the polybags and other planting

materials were removed through hand picking.

Trellis Installation

After clearing the area, trellis were installed on some crops as a support to avoid

it from slanting. Student trainees utilized sliced bamboo sticks in the learning site, it was

pricked inside the polybag of the slanted crops. Trellising was done carefully because

pricking may hit and damage the plant roots.
