Reflection in Media and Information Literacy

After hearing from Sir JJ that our whole class will be conducting a symposium, I

felt excited as I am a girl who wants to explore and learn more about various aspects.

During the preparation, I was really glad that I was able to help, even with small tasks.

While the symposium was happening, I was genuinely curious to see how it would

unfold, so I listened attentively to Ms. Denise, who was teaching about the importance

of AIM (Accuracy of Information for Mediation) when communicating with others. From

the beginning of the preparation until the end of the symposium, I realized that Balayan

Senior High School has the ability to expand and enhance the quality of education in

their institution, and I am truly grateful to be a student in this school.

Bago maganap ang symposium ay pumili muna kung sino ang mga magiging key

person ng event nung nakapili na, pumili naman si sir jayjay ng mga members ng mga

ito. At pagkatapos pinag video niya kami about sa symposuim.

literacy.

Reflection in Media and Information Literacy

On June 9, 2023, we invited some grade 11 students to explore the subject of

MIL. We were providing them with an opportunity to develop critical thinking, digital

literacy, and media production skills that are essential for their personal, academic, and

professional growth. It equips them with the tools necessary to navigate the media

landscape, become responsible digital citizens, and actively contribute to the shaping of

our information-rich society. Attending the symposium on Media and Information

Literacy was an enlightening experience that broadened the understanding of the

profound impact these two fields have on our society. The event brought two guest

speakers who shared their insights and perspectives, leading to thought-provoking

discussions and reflections on the interplay between media and technology in our

rapidly evolving world. It was nice and amazing on that day.

It was a fantastic experience that helped me to increase my knowledge to take

part in a symposium. I can say with confidence that the symposium was a turning point

in my intellectual and personal development as I look back on my participation in it. As a

result of the opportunities, I had to converse with several experts in the field of MIL, I

was able to gain insightful criticism and information that shaped my understanding of

the topic.

Attending presentations made by other speakers was an important component of

the symposia. My understanding was furthered and I was introduced to fresh concepts

as I listened to their studies and discoveries. Seeing how my classmates' interests and

areas of expertise varied was encouraging. The symposium gave me a place to express

my ideas, ask challenging questions, and continue my quest for knowledge.

In conclusion, attending the symposium was a life-changing experience that had

a lasting influence on my intellectual and personal growth. It gave me the chance to

improve my presenting and communication abilities, interact with subject matter experts,

increase my knowledge, and fortify my links to the academic world.

Reflection in Media and Information Literacy

Before the symposium started, our teacher, sir john joseph vivas, informed us

that we will have a big event for Grade 11 students who will soon be in Grade 12. The

big event our teachers talked about is the "Symposium," focusing on media information

literacy. Before this significant event, we, Grade 12 students from HUMSS, were divided

into two groups per section and assigned different roles. These roles included

intermissions, documentaries, speakers, and attendants. Each section had a key person

responsible for making the event successful. We also created trailers and a ticket

program to encourage Grade 11 students to attend the symposium. After dividing the

sections and assigning key persons for the upcoming symposium, and creating trailers

and ticket programs, we contributed a small amount of money for the event. Grade 12

Ramos played a crucial role in increasing the contribution by setting up a booth with a

mythical theme that was visited by students. The booth's earnings were added to the

overall contribution for the symposium. Before the day of the presentation, other

preparations were made, including the arranging of the chairs in the gymnasium where

the event would be held. After completing all the preparations, we managed to make the

symposium a success event. We wholeheartedly encouraged Grade 11 students to

attend and listen to the guest speakers we invited to the school

Participating in a symposium was an incredibly experience that allowed me to

expand my knowledge. Reflecting on my involvement in the symposium, I can

confidently say that it was a pivotal moment in my personal and academic growth. I had

the chance to engage in discussions with different people in the field of MIL, receiving

valuable feedback and insights that helped shape understanding about the said subject.

Another significant aspect of the symposium was attending presentations by other

people. Listening to their findings and discoveries expanded my understanding of the

broader understanding exposed me to new ideas. It was inspiring to witness the

diversity of passion and expertise of fellow schoolmates. The symposium served as a

platform, encouraging me to think critically, ask thought-provoking questions, and

continuously seek knowledge. In conclusion, participating in the symposium was a

transformative experience that left an indelible impact on my personal and academic

development. It allowed me to refine my presentation and communication skills, engage

with experts in my field, broaden my knowledge, and strengthen my connections within

the academic community.

madaming studyante ang natuto tungkol sa media information literacy at madami din

nabuksan ang isipan sa paggamit at pag iingat sa social media. Nagawa naman ng

maayos ng mga humss students ang event.

As we conduct our Symposium about Nurturing trust: An Imperative to

perspective consciousness and human choices awareness last June 9, 2023, we had a

new experience in our senior year. This activity gave us lesson and knowledge about

the life changing words given by the speakers. It gives us the privilege to think wisely in

different views for the better future. I believe their words marked up into the students of

Balayan Senior Highschool minds. The symposium and the topics tackled itself were life

changing. It has a huge benefit to the students of grade 11 to make a better future

ahead. It is an honor to be one of the key people and help to organize the symposium to

make it happened. The responsibilities are my honor to do, specially that I am under the

financial management. I am honored that my Media and Information Technology adviser

trusted me. To be a key person in conducting a symposium is such a great experience

as a first timer.
Trixia Julongbayan

Reflection in Media and Information Literacy

That symposium deals with human choices awareness and how we can use

technology in a smart way. Also discussed here is the importance of media information

and literacy, and how it can be applied to people's lives. We also had two guest

speakers to discuss and explain about the symposium we held, the guest speakers

helped a lot because they were able to properly explain how technology helps are life

easier and more bearable. The symposium symbolizes the aura of HUMSS students

because they are the ones who conducted it, it was also successful with the help of

committee and our subject teacher Mr. John Joseph Vivas.

Joyce Lainez

Reflection in Media and Information Literacy

As a student and a media and information literate I have learned many ways

during the symposium about the different topics. In digital era we communicate in terms

of technology and we use smartphone in our daily lives. Example of this FB, Twitter,

Instagram and more. The information coming from the media help me as a student and

to be more literate in spreading information which should be accurate and verifiable.

As we know that Media and Information Literacy depend on information to work

optimally. The quality of information we engage with largely determines our perceptions,

beliefs and attitudes. It could be information from other persons, the media, libraries,

archives, or other information providers including those on the Internet. People across

the world are witnessing a dramatic increase in access to information and

communication. While some people are starved for information, others are flooded with

print, broadcast and digital content. Media and Information Literacy (MIL) provides

answers to the questions that we all ask ourselves at some point. It becomes an

important tool in modern communication and the digital age has made it easy for

anyone to create media. We don’t always know who created something, why they made
it, and whether it’s credible. This makes media literacy tricky to learn and teach.

Nonetheless, media literacy is an essential skill in the digital age.

I have also learned that posting and sharing is a part of our daily routine. We

have the right of every individual to hold opinions without interference and to seek,

receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers

especially when it’s all about our ideal. Being a media user has a lot of responsibility in

social media, we have this new kind of way to communicate with people that’s very

immediate, sometimes alarmingly so, sometimes painfully so. If we could just hold some

objectivity, a very direct, unfiltered, raw reflection of the way something is landing in the

culture without any spin, or filtration, or anything, it’s very raw. We need to be more

careful in posting links, pages or even personal status so we can prevent distortion.

Lastly, we should cherish our knowledge because it is a source of learning. But

unless it is organized, processed, and available to the right people in a format for

decision making, it is a burden, not a benefit.

Being able to participate in this kind of event is an honor to me because as a

student as a student I still don't know many things or I don't know much about these

things. This type of program is an experience that I will carry with me until I grow up

because they taught me things that i need to know. Attending this symposium has had a

positive effect on me because my knowledge has been expanded and my knowledge

has been further strengthened such as social media and how it affects me and others

as a person who uses social media. In conclusion, participating the symposium allowed

me to refine my presentation and communication and it engage my skills, and

strengthen my connections within the academic community.

Reflecting on a successful symposium is an important step to recognize my

accomplishments, identify what I did well, and determine areas for future improvement.

Reflecting on my ability to think on my feet and maintain a positive attitude under

pressure. I identified areas where I could improve my problem-solving skills for future

events. I'll take the time to acknowledge our team's achievements and celebrate the

success of the symposium. And recognize the hard work and dedication that went into

organizing the event. Celebrating the positive outcomes and the impact they had on

participants and the speakers. Because self-reflection allows me to build upon my

strengths and identify areas for growth.

Symposium: a gathering or conference that is held to discuss a particular topic,

typically one that is intellectual or social in nature. A colloquium is a formal conference

where a number of professionals give brief talks on a particular topic or related topics.

For our final project in Media and Information Literacy (MIL), we had a symposium on

June 9, 2023, titled "Nurturing Trust: A Requirement for Human Choice Awareness and

Perspective Consciousness." Ms. Denise Hannah Mae Abante and Mr. Jefferson Litan,

the guest speakers, discussed the importance of technology in our daily lives, how we

can use it correctly, and how to avoid the things we should avoid in terms of technology

and social media, because there are some factors that social media affect our daily

lives, and for us to be aware of how to use technology correctly.

the Symposium happened at Balayan Senior High School with the help of our subject

teacher, Sir John Joseph Vivas and the students from Arroyo. And I realized that we

can make a successful big event if we will coordinate on other coordinators and be a

responsible student.

Reflection in Media and Information Literacy

Symposium is a conference or meeting for the discussion of some issue, notably

an intellectual topic or social problem. It is a meeting wherein there are professional or

expertise who would discuss a particular topic in a specific subject or field. For our final

requirement in Media and Information Literacy (MIL) subject, we had a symposium on

June 9, 2023 with a theme "Nurturing Trust: An Imperative to Perspectives

Consciousness and Human Choices Awareness". This event was handled and

organized by the HUMSS 12 students of Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)

Strand with the help and guidance of their subject teachers, strand coordinator,

guidance counselor, master teachers, school principal as well as all the people who are

part of the Balayan Senior High School. Ms. Denise Hannah Mei G. Abante and Mr.

Jefferson M. Litan are the guest speakers who discussed the importance of technology

aligned to Media and Information Literacy in our lives. They also discussed the cause

and effect of social media and how can we responsibly use it in our everyday life. They

discussed the advantages and disadvantages of media and technology, how it can

affect us, how it benefited us, how can we be an information literate individuals and all

the factors why is it important in our lives. They give strategies and valuable learnings

and advices wherein the students can apply especially in their journey. Students
learned a lot of lessons to bring as they step forward in their college life. Me as one of

the grades 12 student who participated and listened to the discussion can accurately

say that I really learned a lot which i can bring and share to other people. I learned how

to be more observant and careful in any of my actions most especially in social media. I

learned how to check and identify factual information to avoid any crime on spreading

fake news. I learned how to act as an individual who is media and information literate

one. This event marked such an amazing and meaningful impact to all the people who

participated. This symposium was a great and a memorable experience that everyone

can always reminisce and treasure.

Jusmine Reica Rosario

Reflection in Media and Information Literacy

I've learned about various philosophies, politics, human as well as how to

communicate and express myself effectively. Basically, the goal is to share and trade

useful information. Since these discussions enable specialists in a certain field to get

together, discuss the subject at hand, and look at the issues and various trends around

the theme, various proposals or solutions may result from these discussions. Our guest

speakers inspired many grades 11 students about what they achieved and goals in life.

They are so powerful because of their degree but humble as well. This places a strong

emphasis on speaking one's mind and disagreeing with others' ideas and viewpoints.

Incoming grade 12 students need to be able to generate opinions on complex subjects

as well as listen to others' viewpoints and express their agreement or disagreement with

others and the reasons behind it.

During the symposium day each speaker would give their experience as a

researcher. Their experience made me identify with them and wanted to pursue even

more a research carrier. It made us realize that they were in the same position that we

are right now and that they took chances in order to accomplish their dreams. They told

us to take chances and give our best because that what gonna paid off later on. It made

us believe that our dreams as a scientist can come true if you work hard. These

seminars make us grow as scientist and increase our knowledge in different areas.

They showed us different techniques used by them, and that will be used by us in the

near future. This way we can pass on our knowledge to future generations and just as

the speakers were, be a role model to them. As professionals they guided us, telling us

what would be will happen in the future.

Self-reflection is a valuable exercise that can help me identify my strengths,

areas for improvement, and lessons learned from the experience. Reflecting on my

ability to collaborate with my team, I did delegate tasks effectively, assessing how well I

communicated with my team members. My team and I make quick decisions, solve

problems, and maintain a positive attitude throughout the event, identifying any areas

where we could have been more proactive or responsive. I always take note of our

successes and areas for growth from our experience, as they will contribute to my

personal and professional development.
