IV. Procedure
A. Initial Activity:
A short video of a person having a good communication skills will be played and everyone will watch
intently and jot down what they have observed from the speaker.
B. Motivation: Charades (Group activity)
C. Discussion: Techniques in Improving Verbal Communication (Summary)
Reinforcement is the use of encouraging words alongside non-verbal gestures such as head nods, a warm
facial expression and maintaining eye contact.
Questioning is broadly how we obtain information from others on specific topics.
Closed questions tend to seek only a one or two word answer (often simply ‘yes’ or ‘no’). They therefore
limit the scope of the response.
Open questions demand further discussion and elaboration. They therefore broaden the scope for
response.
Reflecting is the process of feeding back to another person your understanding of what has been said.
A summary is an overview of the main points or issues raised.
The way a communication is closed or ended will, at least in part, determine the way a conversation is
remembered.

D. Application: Group activity


Perform a skit about improving communication skills in our everyday lives.
E. Valuing:
Ask them about the importance of having good communication skills and applying it in our day-to-day
life.

F. Generalization:
Ask them about what they have learned from the topic today. Make them write a short reflection paper by
using the phrase
The thing that I learned in my English subject today are ___________________________

G. Evaluation
Make them write their own techniques on how to develop good communication skills.
