Let’s move to Laoag city in Ilocos Norte

where our dear author was born and raised.

To begin with, Amador Daguio Is Filipino

writer, poet, and teacher who is best known
for his short stories and poems that capture
the beauty and complexities of Philippine
culture and society. He was born in the town
of Laoag in the northern Philippines, and
grew up in the mountainous region of the
Cordilleras, which would later serve as the
setting for many of his stories.

Daguio is best known for his short stories,

which often explore the lives and struggles of
the Filipino people, particularly those in rural
areas. His works have been praised for their
lyrical prose, vivid descriptions, and deep
understanding of human emotions.
"The Wedding Dance" by Amador Daguio was
first published in 1953 in the Philippines Free
Press, which was a weekly publication at the
time. The story has since become one of the
most well-known and frequently
anthologized works of Philippine literature.

The 1950s was a period of significant social

and political change in the Philippines, as the
country was recovering from World War II
and transitioning into a new era of
independence. During this time, many
Filipino writers were exploring themes of
cultural identity, nationalism, and social
issues through their work.
The story reflects the traditional way of life of
the Kalinga tribe and their customs and
beliefs. The Kalinga tribe is known for their
strong family ties and their adherence to
traditions. In the story, Daguio portrays the
Kalinga's wedding ceremony as a significant
event that brings the whole community
together.
The story was also inspired by his own
experiences growing up in the northern
Philippines, where traditional cultural
practices and customs still hold great
importance.
Ma’am! Yes! Ma’am!
