Can an eyes capture images?
The retina is a light-sensitive layer of tissue, lining the inner surface of the eye. It captures light sent through
the cornea and crystalline lens to create an image by triggering nerve impulses that pass to various
visual centers of the brain via the optic nerve.

Why is eye compared to a camera?

There are many similarities between the human eye and a camera, including a diaphragm to control the
amount of light that gets through to the lens. This is the shutter in a camera, and the pupil, at the centre of
the iris, in the human eye. A lens to focus the light and create an image. The image is real and inverted.

Search for: Why is eye compared to a camera?

How does the human eye acts as a natural camera?
Your eye as a camera

The cornea takes widely diverging rays of light and bends them through the pupil, the round opening in the
central portion of the coloured iris. Your Iris and pupil act like the aperture of a camera.

Your iris controls how much light enters your eye. Your lens helps focus the light. The retina is a light-
sensitive surface at the back of your eye. It captures an image of what you’re looking at. Then, the retina
sends impulses to your brain along the optic nerve. Finally, the brain interprets what you’re seeing.

How is a camera like an eye?

The eyeball is just like a camera. In fact, human eyes are part of a classification known as “camera-type eyes.”
And just like a camera, it can't function without the presence of light. As light hits the eyes, it's focused by the
eye in a way similar to a camera lens.

An eye and a camera both have lenses and light-sensitive surfaces.

A human eye has a lens (1), pupil (2), iris (3), cornea (4), retina (5),
optic nerve (6), and blind spot (7).
 Sclera: It is the outer covering, a protective tough white layer called the sclera (white part of the
eye).
 Cornea: The front transparent part of the sclera is called the cornea. Light enters the eye through
the cornea.
 Iris: A dark muscular tissue and ring-like structure behind the cornea is known as the iris. The
colour of the iris actually indicates the colour of the eye. The iris also helps regulate or adjust
exposure by adjusting the iris.
 Pupil: A small opening in the iris is known as a pupil. Its size is controlled with the help of iris. It
controls the amount of light that enters the eye.
 Lens: Behind the pupil, there is a transparent structure called a lens. By the action of ciliary
muscles, it changes its shape to focus light on the retina. It becomes thinner to focus on distant
objects and becomes thicker to focus on the nearby objects.
 Retina: It is a light-sensitive layer that consists of numerous nerve cells. It converts images
formed by the lens into electrical impulses. These electrical impulses are then transmitted to the
brain through optic nerves.
 Optic nerves: Optic nerves are of two types. These include cones and rods
https://wordwall.net/resource/16420979

This is similar to what happens when a camera captures an image. First, light hits the surface of the
camera’s lens. The aperture controls how much light enters the camera. Then, the light makes its way to a
light-sensitive surface. For a long time, this surface was the camera’s film. In today’s digital cameras, this
surface is an imaging sensor chip.
An SLR camera has a lens (1), mirror (2), aperture (4), prism (4), film or imaging sensor (5) and eyepiece (6).
