Summative Test; Essay in Environmental Engineering

For Mid Term, the modules I’ve been able to comprehend were all about the
Environment, the ecosystem, the food chain, biodiversity and pollution. One of the
topics that I found interesting and at the same time I will be reflecting on was the
environmental pollution, these topics made me realize how the society needed
engineers and all of us to solve problems and prevent hazards in the environment.

As what is discussed on the SPLM, environmental pollution is one of the hazards

that is constantly growing and giving harmful effects on any forms of life in the
environment. I really didn’t have hard time on understanding and studying this topic and
I learnt a lot from it. I was also able to learn more about the different pollutions including
the causes, effects, and control measures. The different pollutions that were mentioned
on the topic were air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution, marine pollution, noise
pollution, thermal pollution and nuclear pollution. There are also numbers of given
control measures mentioned but I think those control measures on any pollutions like
proper soil conservation, water conservation, using of bio pesticides appropriate water
management, cleaning up polluted soils, cleaning oil form water surface, cooling ponds,
cooling towers, spray ponds, disposal of radioactive waste, disposal of solid waste land
fill, waste utilization, and more isn’t enough if only few are doing it for the growing
environment. To solve this constantly growing problem, all of us should be doing these
measures. Engineers should also think of more solutions for these environmental
pollutions that at the same time doesn’t generate to a new environmental pollution.

In conclusion, I was able to realize that as the environment grows and as we get
more advances in terms of technology and ways of life, environmental pollution is also
growing perpendicularly. I was also able to realize that environmental pollution is not
just a normal pollution that we think it is. It is more dangerous than what we can
imagine. I also comprehended that most or all of the environmental pollution is just the
results of the actions of humankind. We are the main cause of it; we are the one that is
responsible for it. In order to balance everything, I think we should not just focus on
how we can improve the ways of life, but also think on how we can protect the
environment and reduce pollutions.
