THE HAUNTED HOUSE

Everyone says that the old house at the end of the road is haunted. It used to be the
residence of a rich family but now none of them would stay there. So, the house is vacant
and uncared for. The compound is filled with over-grown weed and grass. My friend Jack
and I decided to find out once and for all if what people said was true. So, one evening, we
bravely entered the house and prepared to spend the night there. We brought along a
powerful torchlight, two sleeping-bags, some food and drinks, and a portable stereo set. The
early part of the night was no trouble at all. We sat on our sleeping-bags and listened to our
favourite music.
 Twelve midnight came. We felt a bit sleepy. So, we switched off the stereo set and
crawled into our sleeping-bags. However, sleep was impossible. There seemed to be a
heavy atmosphere hanging around us. The darkness was oppressive and there was a
strange soft whining noise coming from upstairs. We dared not go up to investigate the
noise. So, we lay quietly in our sleeping-bags and hoped that the noise would go away. But it
would not go away.

Actually, it got louder and louder. Then it sounded like someone moaning. Jack
hurried out of his sleeping-bags and switched on the torchlight. We could see nothing except
the walls of the empty living room we were in. Suddenly, there was a loud crash from
upstairs and the moans turned to screams. We screamed too and ran out of the house as
fast as we could, leaving behind everything that we had brought. The hair on the back of my
head stood on end for hours afterwards. We never dared to go back into the house, not even
in the daytime. My uncle had to go and retrieve the things we had left behind there. So, is
the house haunted? All I can say is that if you want to know, go and find out for yourself.

PROCESS TO MAKE NARRATIVE ESSAY

The first stage for me to prepare an essay is prewriting. In prewriting, I have been
looking for a suitable essay title for effective communication to write an essay. I decided to
choose about advantages of effective communication. I have chosen this title because it is
easy for me to find information about it. In addition, I have also been looking for ideas and
contents that need to be included in my essay. So, I made suggestions about what, where,
when, what, why and how.
 Second, drafting stage. I started with freewriting. In freewriting, I followed the
impulses of my own mind, allowing thoughts and inspiration to appear to me without
premeditation. Next, I structured my information. I have been looking for some information
about effective communication to start my essay as an introduction. After that, I elaborated
on my ideas. I flesh out the contents of my essay with supplemented the topic sentences of
each body paragraph. Lastly, I wrote a complete draft. I attempt to get a whole first version
of my piece down before any revising or editing was done.

Third, I have been revised on my essay. In revising, I have added and read and
rewritten sentences. Initially, when I reread my essay, I found some weaknesses in my
argument that needed strengthening, and I did a little more thinking and research. After that,
I restructured my essay to make the argument more logical. Finally, I have asked my
classmates Amar and Amirul to proofread my essay to detect some mistakes.

The fourth stage to prepare my essay is editing. I have started the process of editing
after I am satisfied with the structure, content, and coherence of my essay. I have read each
sentence carefully and identified its function in the paragraph and I redesigned the sentence.
I have also managed sentence length and strengthened the grammatical core of the
sentence that is subject, verb and object.

Last stage is publishing. After 2 days I tried to complete my essay, finally today I
managed to complete it well. I am confident and satisfied with the essay I prepared. I am
ready to publish this essay to my lecturer.
