2. Review:
Digital Quiz
Directions: Find out how the people could avoid the harmful effects of weather disturbances such as typhoon.

Click happy face if the practice is desirable and Sad Face if it is undesirable.

___ 1. Barangay people plant trees in their own backyard.

___ 2. People refrain from cutting down trees in the mountain.

___ 3. See to it that there is enough supply of food and water.

when there is water in the streets.

3. Motivation

Show pictures of different weather conditions.

What can you say about the picture?(Different weather conditions)

What weather is shown in picture no.1?no.2?no.3?no,4?
How about the last picture?(Stormy Weather or there is a typhoon)

(Math Integration/Numeracy)
Do you know the average number of typhoons that visits Philippines for the whole year?
Say: Philippines experiences an average of 20 typhoons every year.

How do we compute average?

Say: In our Math Lesson we compute the average by dividing the total number of variables by the number of
samples. In this case we get the total number of typhoons every year and divided by the number of years
included as the sample.
How do typhoons affect us?
The environment?
Animals?
Our properties?

B. 1.Presentation

Today, you are going to describe the effects of winds given a certain storm warning signal.
2. EXPLANATION

Discuss storm warning signals

Public Storm Warning SignalNo.1

Typhoon is expected within 36 hours.
Maximum wind speed of 30-60 kph is expected to affect in certain area within 36 hours

Classes in preschool levels in all public and private schools in affected communities are automatically suspended.
There may be considerable damages to structures of light to medium construction.
Impact of the winds may cause twigs and branches of small trees to be broken.
People are not advised to travel by the sea or air.

Public Storm Warning Signal No.2

Maximum wind speed is greater than 60 kph ,but not more than 100kph is expected to affect a certain place in at
least 24 hours.
Classes in preschool , elementary and secondary are automatically suspended in affected communities.
Some coconut trees maybe tilted or broken, few big trees maybe uprooted.
Light to moderate damage to properties.

Public Storm Warning signal Number 2

Maximum wind speed of more than 100 kph up to 185 kph is expected to affect a certain place in at least 12 to 18
hours.
Classes in all levels are automatically suspended in affected communities.
Massive damages maybe expected in affected communities.
Widespread disruption of electrical power and communication services will happen.

Public Storm Warning Signal No.4

Very Strong winds of more than 185kph is expected to affect a certain area in least 12 hours.
Many large trees may be uprooted and most residential houses and buildings of mixed construction may be severely
damaged.
People in low-lying areas should be at the evacuation center.
Heavy to very heavy damage.

Public Storm Warning Signal No.5

• Very Strong winds of more than 220kph is expected to affect a certain area in least 12 hours.
• Wide spread damage to high risk structure.
• Complete roof failure on many residences and industrial building.
• Electrical power distribution and communication services severely disrupted.
•  Most of the plants are uprooted and defoliated

3. ENGAGEMENT
(Performance Assessment/ Differentiated Activity/instruction)

Set standards in group activity.
House Rules/Standards/Guidelines:

(Follow the mnemonic/memory device.

G- Give thoughtful feedback

R- Respect others & their thoughts

O- On task all the time

U- Use soft voices

P- Participate actively

S- Stay with your group

a. Presentation of outputs

Note set standards for reporting.

Group 1(Present)
Ask: What are the effects of the wind during signal no1?
Note: Give positive feedback through a clap.
Group 2(Present) , Group 3 , Group 4………………….

4.Elaboration

ELABORATION

Present a video clip in each storm signal.

standards to be followed in watching a video

 Be attentive.
 Take note of important details.
 Be quite.
 Be ready to answer the questions after.

Let the pupils answer the following questions ,

1.What was shown in the video?

2. What are the effects of the winds on public storm

What was the reminder given to us?

(Be alert . Be Ready during calamities)

(Integration Across Learning Areas: EsP)

Valuing: Why is it important to be ready always for different calamities especially typhoon?

What will you do the the victims of typhoon? How can you help them? Why is it important to be helpful?

Activity 2: “ Complete Me “

Let the pupils complete the graphic organizer below;

Note: The teacher will post the graphic organizer in the board.

Prepare meta strips written with the different effects of winds during different public storm warning signal. Ask for
volunteers to get one meta strip read it in front and paste it under the correct organizer.

PSWS#1 PSWS#2 PSWS#3

PSWS#4 PSWS#5

5. Generalization:

How can you describe the effects of wind during storm signal no.1?no.2?no.3?no.4?no 5?

6. Application
123 Go…
The teacher will describe the effects of the winds of a certain storm signal.. The pupils will line to the storm signal
being asked .The pupil with wrong answer will be out while the pupil left will be the winner.
