Physical states and changes in matter

1. Motion of particles in solids, liquids, and gases:

-The particles of a gas move quickly and are able to spread apart from one another.

- The particles of a liquid are able to move past each other.

- The particles of a solid are not able to move out of their positions relative to one another, but do

have small vibrational movements.

Energy transformation and transfer
1. Know that energy cannot be created or destroyed
2. Know that all energy eventually is transferred to the surroundings, making them warmer
3. Describe energy transfers and the main energy wastages for a variety of devices.

List the types of energy you know and give an example

1. Light Energy – A light bulb
2. Kinetic Energy – Anything to do with movement, for example a moving car.
3. Gravitational Potential Energy – A Snowboarder at the top of a mountain.
4. Sound Energy – A speaker.
5. Electrical Energy – An iPod
6. Chemical Energy – Batteries
7. Heat Energy – A Bunsen flame.
8. Elastic Energy – A stretched rubber band
