2. Cable Tray & Trunking Installation Procedures

To carry out installation activities for Cable trays, Ladders & trunking, below mentioned
procedure shall be followed step by step in sequential manner.

Preparation of work

Prior to start installation, refer the approved shop drawing related to the installation area
and ensure that required material is available at store as per approved material submittals.

While issuing from site store, ensure that the materials are free of any damage or deformity
of any kind.

Any minor damages observed (for trays/ladders / trunkings) will be repaired suitably and in
case the repairs could not be done properly, the material has to be rejected for
replacement.

Ensure tray/ladders/ trunking routes are clear to start and co-ordinated with other services,
if any in the concerned areas.

Ensure Cable tray/ladders and trunking schedule is made available with the supervisors at
site.

All drilling or cut ends of site fabricated items should be cleaned-up and treated with zinc
rich paint before installation.

Ensure cable trays/ladders & trunking which are planned for installation are available at the
location of installation.

Installation of Cable Tray/ladders & Cable Trunking

Prior to start of the installation works, make sure that shop drawing of the area is approved
& issued for construction and ensure that only approved shop drawings with correct
revisions are followed, while taking-up any installation activity at site

released / cleared by civil section to proceed with cable tray / trunking installations. Also
ensure that the work area is clean and safe to take-up the activities.

Mark & line-out the route of Cable Tray/ladders/ Trunking as per approved shop drawing &
make final field measurement for assembly or fabricating the tray/ladders to suit the actual
site dimensions.

The route and levels should also be co-ordinated as necessary to interface installation of
Cable Tray/Ladders or Trunking with other works.

Install adequate supports / brackets to prevent sagging throughout the length of run, not
exceeding 1.8 meter so that any stresses on cable is prevented. Check all hardware
mountings are anchored firmly to walls, ceiling or floors and ensure all supports are
mechanically secured firmly.

The installation of Cable trays/ladders or trunking system shall be neat, straight & parallel to
building features so as to achieve overall good aesthetic look and finish of all installations.

Proper branching, permissible bending, cutting or drilling to facilitate branch joints, up and

How to control hazards.
By determining the consequences and likelihood of risks occurring, you can now, aim to eliminate, minimise and control the
hazards.
Use the hierarchy of control system to minimise or eliminate exposure to hazards. It is a widely accepted system promoted by
numerous safety organisations. Referring to the hierarchy will help you decide what controls to put in place to manage the hazards
once you have assessed their risk level.
