EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE

I reside in the coastal community of Borocboroc, Belison, Antique. The risk of flooding is low,
but occasionally when it rains hard, a portion of our property will have stagnant water because
the ground is not flat, which allows water to flow and stock in that place. Floods, the most
common sort of natural disaster, happen when an excess of water submerges normally dry
ground. Floods are frequently brought on by prolonged periods of heavy rain, or storm surges
from tropical cyclones or tsunamis in coastal locations. It's difficult to live in a flood-prone area
since stagnant water can include leptospirosis, a disease that is harmful to our health and a
mosquito breeding ground. Asking for support or assistance from our brgy. is one of the best
interventions. Officials to make a drainage for the water from the high area to flow straight into
the shore or next suggestion is providing a flood control defense. The term "landslide" refers to a
broad range of occurrences involving downward ground movement, including rockfalls, deep
slope failure, shallow debris flows, and avalanches. Landslides are primarily caused by gravity
acting on a slope. Landslide is unlikely to happen in our area because we are far from the
mountains.
Storm surge hazard rating is High for us because we reside close to the coast. Fortunately, our
home is not particularly close to the coast, but living in a coastal area is extremely dangerous,
and one must still be vigilant as the water rises depending on the strength of the wind. During a
storm surge, those who live near the shore are forced to flee because their homes were reached
by the water when it rose.
The government offer the people to live in the housing project as it is much safer there and far
from the danger of storm surge, but the people refuse as their main source of income is fishing so
the barangay official just suggest to forcefully evacuate when there is a storm surge. We should
be aware of the place where we live, know if it is prone to hazard so that we will be aware and
prepared in times of emergency.
