Attachment 2
Pre Commissioning Tests: Insulation Resistance (IR) Test of 6.3kV Switchgear Bus Bar
Switchgear/Item No.

System / Equipment

This test is to measure insulation resistance of entire switchgear including bus bars, circuit breakers, CT etc of all
panels.
During test check and confirm the following conditions:
a) All Circuit breakers are in service position and closed.
b) All CT’s are connected properly.
c) All VT’s disconnected from the circuit.
d) All Lightning Arrestors disconnected from the circuit.
e) All Power cables are disconnected.
f) The frames and secondary windings of all CT’s are earthed.
g) All bus bars, insulators, circuit breakers CTs etc are clean and free from visual damage.

Test Procedure:
The leads on the IR tester to be connected to the conductive parts of the phases under test. For example, the IR
test would be done between one phase to earth while other two phases connected earth.

IR test to be done for one (1) minute before and after High Voltage test and results to be recorded.

When the IR test is completed for any one phase, discharge the static charge of that phase by static discharge
stick or by IR tester with automatic discharging capabilities.

Recommended Test Voltage 5kV.

The test connection diagram is as shown in figure below:
