BSTM 403 Science, Technology and Society

I. Briefly explain the interrelatedness of science, technology, and society. (10 Points)
- They all share the same goal of disseminating, discovering, and developing the knowledge that
has been experienced and understood thru out the generations of human history, this stems
from the cycle that society exist because of interaction and sharing of same beliefs that
influences the curiosity of people that science answers or seeks to answer the questions in order
of finding truth and this knowledge is used in technology to apply the experience accumulated
in ways that can bring betterment to the daily living of the people.
II. Discuss how science and Technology affects society. (10 Points)
- Science and Technology influences the mindset of a society and changes the belief and
understanding especially if given with something that deviated from the original source of
knowledge that answer a question more precisely or offers another path that a society can
choose from. Science and Technology drastically changes how one perceives the truth of the
world where the fundamental basics of moral and philosophies of mankind is put in question,
because science and technology provides knowledge that expands beyond what is already been
discovered, creating new understanding that influences how one person thinks, but in the end
of the day no matter what knowledge is being used, there will always be pros and cons, and
there will always be a difference of perception in each and every individuals.
III. Why must STS be taught to the students? (10 Points)
- Because STS opens the minds of the younger generation in knowledge that can be helpful in
their journey thru out their life time, because this gives fundamental understanding on what
world are we living in and how to answer issues or problems that are being faced currently by
our society thru science and technology or be prepared to faced future oriented issues, STS
always helps boosting advancement of knowledge for younger generation as it helps motivate
and learn the necessary knowledge that is applicable to the future of their life.
