Teaching Internship
1. Create and interpret visual representation of the motion of objects such as tape charts and motion
graphs (S7FE-IIIb-3)
1
• Checking of the attendance • PowerPoint Presentation
• Introduce house rules
• Presentation of Lesson Objectives
Key Questions:
1. What can you say on the first illustration?
Ans. The rabbit is faster than the hare.
2. How about the second illustration?
Ans. They are both at rest.
3. Do you have any idea what is our topic for today?
Ans. Speed, motion, distance
2
Picture Description
Constant speed
At rest
Accelerating
Decelerating
Answers:
1. Accelerating
2. Decelerating
3. Constant
4. At rest
Key Questions:
1. What are the variables involved on the first and second
pictures (speed)?
Ans. Distance and time
2. What are the variables involved on the third and fourth
pictures (velocity)?
Ans. Speed and time
3
3. When the variables distance and time are present in a graph,
what are you describing?
Ans. Speed.
4. When the variables speed and time are present in a graph,
what are you describing?
Ans. Velocity
5. Can you now differentiate the two, distance-time and
velocity-time graphs?
Ans. Speed involves distance and time while velocity
involves speed and time.
Key Questions:
1. At what particular segment does the car accelerates?
Decelerates? Why?
(Answers depend on the segment shown)
2. At what particular segment is the car’s speed constant?
Why?
(Answers depend on the segment shown)

Distance-Time Graph (d-t graph)
One way of describing motion is by plotting distance against
time in a Cartesian plane. Like in your mathematics class, this
presentation will make use of X and Y axis. (Graphs utilized in this
presentation are taken from
https://camillasenior.homestead.com/motion_graphs.pdf )
Time is plotted on
Y the X-axis. The
further to the right on
the axis, the longer
the time from the
start.
Distance is plotted
on the Y-axis. The
higher up the graph,
X
the further from the
Fig. 1: Distance-Time Graph start.
Object is at rest
An object is NOT
Y MOVING when a
horizontal line is shown
on a distance-time graph.
Y An object is NOT
MOVING when a
horizontal line is shown
on a distance-time graph.
5
In this case, time is
increasing to the right,
but the distance remains
the same. The object is
not moving hence, the
X object is At Rest.

Remember, this is a v-t
graph.
Object is Accelerating (Speeding Up)

Summary
7
➢ A speed- time graph shows us how the speed of a moving object
changes with time.
o The steeper the graph, the greater the acceleration.
o A horizontal line means the object is moving at a constant speed.
o A downward sloping line means the object is slowing down.
5. ELABORATE (8 mins)
Activity for elaboration for them to apply what they have learned: • Laptop/
