Part A: Total marks (70 marks)

Q.1) A vessel steering 335º (C) at 15 knots through a current setting 270º (T) at 3 knots
observe “Ra’s Nay Band” light house (27º 23.5΄N , 052º 35΄ E) to bear 000º (C). One
and half an hour later the same light house bore 101º (C), allowing for 5º of leeway due
to strong Westerly gale. Find the course and speed made good and the position of the
vessel at the time of taking first and second bearing. (20 Marks)

Q.2) AT 0800 Hrs vessel at position (A) “Jazireh – ye Farsi” Light house (27º 59΄ N , 050º
10΄E) bearing : 220º (T) , Distance: 12 Miles, is required to sail to position (B)7 miles
south of “Jabrin” Light (27º 51.5΄ N, 051º 26.5΄ E).

a) Find compass course to steer, if current sets 135º (T) at 3 Knots and there is
Strong Northerly wind blowing, which is expected to cause 10º of leeway.
Vessel speed is 16 Knots. (15 Marks)
b) Find ETA of vessel at Position (B) (5 Marks)

Q.3) Find the predicted time and height of HW and LW at Cockenzie (ATT VOL.1) for the
AM falling time on 23rd Feb 2000. (15 Marks)

Q.4) Calculate Great Circle distance and also initial course between the following positions;
From A: 35º 00.0΄ S 180º 00.0΄ -
TO B: 57º 10.0΄ S 070º 00.0΄ W (15 Marks)
