Ví dụ:

cái nguyên âm (a, e, i, o, u).
Ví dụ: an aircraft (một cái máy bay), an
inkpot (một lọ mực), … .

* Lưu ý: Mạo từ an còn đứng trước một số từ


bắt đầu bằng chữ cái “h” khi chữ cái này
không được đọc lên.
Ví dụ: an hour (một giờ đồng hồ), an
heir (một người thừa kế), … .

- A: đứng trước các từ bắt đầu bằng một chữ


cái phụ âm.
Ví dụ như: a pen (một cái bút), a ruler (một
cái thước kẻ), a book (một quyển sách), … .

* Lưu ý: Mạo từ a còn được dùng trước một số


từ bắt đầu bằng chữ cái “u”, khi chúng được
phát âm là /ju/.
Ví dụ: a university (một trường đại học), a
unicorn (một con kì lân), …

- The được đứng trước một danh từ xác định


có nghĩa là đối tượng cụ thể đã được xác định
hoặc mọi người đều biết chính xác người/ vật
được đề cập đến.
Ví dụ: This is the caferia ( đây là căn tin)

b/. Mạo từ zero “ Þ ” được sử dụng để nói về


điêù gì đó chung chung.
