Daily Lesson Plan
School: Marcelo I. Cabrera Vocational High School Grade Level: Science 7
Teacher: ANDJELYN M. ABALOS Learning Area: Matter
Date: October 2, 2023 Quarter: First
I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, the learners must be able to:
1. Identify and describe different methods of separating mixtures.
2. Demonstrate seven methods of separating mixtures.
A. Content standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of the properties of substances that
distinguish
them from mixtures.
B. Performance Standards The learners should be able to investigate the properties of mixtures of varying
concentrations using available materials
C. Learning Competencies The learners must be able to distinguish mixtures from substances based on a set of
properties.
II. CONTENT Diversity of Materials: Separating Mixtures
III.LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teachers Guide Pages
2. Learner’s material

3. Textbook Pages
4. Additional Materials Whiteboard and markers, Projector and screen (optional), Various mixtures for
demonstrations (e.g., saltwater, sand and iron filings, salad, etc.), Containers and tools for
separation methods (e.g., filters, magnets, sieves)

for the new lesson
C. Presenting examples or Begin the lesson by discussing what a mixture is. Explain that a mixture is a combination of
instances of the new
two or more substances that are physically combined but not chemically bonded.
lesson
Ask students why it might be necessary to separate mixtures. Encourage them to think
about real-world examples, such as separating salt from saltwater or separating salad
ingredients.
D. Discussing new Methods of Separating Mixtures (25 minutes):
concepts and practicing 1. Discuss and demonstrate various methods of separating mixtures, such as:
new skills # 1

Filtration: Use a funnel and filter paper to separate sand from water.
Magnetism: Show how a magnet can be used to separate iron filings from a mixture.
Evaporation: Discuss how you can separate salt from saltwater by allowing the water to
evaporate, leaving the salt behind.
Sieving: Use a sieve to separate smaller particles from larger particles, such as separating
flour from bran.
Decantation: Show how to carefully pour off the clear liquid from a mixture, leaving the
sediment behind.
2. During each demonstration, explain the principles behind the method and when it
might be useful in real-life.
E. Discussing new Hands-On Activity (5 minutes):
concepts and practicing Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a different mixture (e.g., a
new skills # 2
mixture of sand and salt). Instruct them to choose one of the separation methods discussed
