1. Identify and describe different methods of separating mixtures.
2. Demonstrate seven methods of separating mixtures.

concentrations using available materials

Magnetism: Show how a magnet can be used to separate iron filings from a mixture.

evaporate, leaving the salt behind.
Sieving: Use a sieve to separate smaller particles from larger particles, such as separating
flour from bran.
Decantation: Show how to carefully pour off the clear liquid from a mixture, leaving the
sediment behind.
