OBJECTIVE
The aim of this procedure is to ensure the safely grease conveyors in motion on plant
operations

2. SCOPE
This procedure and its documented standards will apply to all Plant operations at
Ingwenya

3. REVIEW
It is the responsibility of the Safety Officer to ensure that this procedure is reviewed every
two years.

4. IMPLEMENTATION
The following Roles are responsible to implement this procedure

Procedure

1. Fill out mini risk assessment and communicate with entire team
2. Gather tools and pre use checklists to be filled out.
3. Have a readily available MSDS at hand and ensure you understand the contents
thereof
4. Ensure you do not have any loose clothing
5. Do not touch any moving part as far as possible when greasing the bearing of the
conveyor in motion
6. Do not put your hand through/around the guard trying to grease the bearing when the
belt is in motion.
7. Start greasing the bearing.
8. Grease the bearing with the grease nipple and grease gun pipe provided until old
grease protrudes.
9. Do not remove the guard while belt is still in motion
10. Should you need to remove the guard to grease the belt, you must do a proper lockout
and permit.
11. Clean up old grease that purge through the seals
