# Part A = 40 Marks
★ Translate the following passages into Arabic:

1) The dangers inherent in the continuation of the armaments race and nuclear tests
are only too apparent. If this organization is to make the principles enshrined in the
Preamble of the Charter a living reality, there must be no pause in the determined,
sincere and continuing campaign to reduce world tension and hostility. The people
of the world who continue to live in such a tense and surcharged atmosphere, replete
with the ever present threat of total destruction, are entitled to look forward to the
dawn of a new era in which every man, woman and child in every country can be
expected to live above want and in dignity, at peace with themselves and with the
rest of mankind.

2) The Arab League Summit:

The Arab League received an official request on 5 November from Qatar for an
Arab summit to be held on the crisis facing Iraq and the Palestinian territories. In a
letter to league head Amr Moussa, Qatari Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassem bin
Jabr Al-Thani said that It was time “to discuss the means with which the Arabs will
deal with the current situation in the Middle East, as the (UN) Security Council
prepares to issue a new resolution …” Libya had threatened to pull out of the Arab
League, which it criticizes for failing to act on developments in the region.

3) Water:
All living things need fresh, clean water. When you look at a model or picture of
our planet, you can’t help but notice it’s mostly water. It seems that with so much
water all around us, we could never run out of it. Unfortunately, most of the water
on the Earth is not usable. It’s mostly salty water and you can’t drink it. Only about
one ten-thousandth (0.0001) of all water on the Earth is fresh water. Even a smaller
amount is drinkable because people keep putting trash, wastes, and harmful
chemicals into water. Every time you wash dishes or clothes, or take a shower, you
are sending liters of waste water down the drain. That water is no longer usable until
the chemicals and wastes are removed from it and it is treated to kill germs.

4) Education is a very familiar process. It has been under observation for a long
period of time. On the surface it seems to be a fairly simple process. It has little of
the mystery of lightning or of atomic fission or of cardiac surgery. It is a process,

‫‪moreover, that has been managed at times by rather ordinary people. True enough‬‬
‫‪some of these ordinary people may have obtained very mediocre results. But they‬‬
‫‪have not produced disasters. All in all we can hardly declare educational ideas to be‬‬
‫‪out of bounds for amateurs. We can hardly claim that here we have a process so‬‬
‫‪complicated, so delicate and so dangerous that the ordinary person cannot hope to‬‬
‫‪understand or manage it. We can hardly contend that the specialist is the only one‬‬
‫‪who can reach valid conclusions about the nature of the educational process.‬‬

‫‪★ Translate the following articles into English:‬‬

‫★ المادة ‪:٧‬‬
‫كل الناس سواسية أمام القانون ولهم الحق في التمتع بحماية متكافئة عنه دون أية تفرقة‪ ،‬كما أن لهم جميعا‬
‫الحق في حماية متساوية ضد أي تميز يخل بهذا اإلعالن وضد أي تحريض على تمييز كهذا‪.‬‬

‫★ المادة ‪:٨‬‬
‫لكل شخص الحق في أن يلجأ إلى المحاكم الوطنية إلنصافه عن أعمال فيها اعتداء على الحقوق األساسية التي‬
‫يمنحها له القانون‪.‬‬

‫★ المادة ‪:٩‬‬
‫ال يجوز القبض على أي إنسان أو حجزه أو نفيه تعسفا‪.‬‬

‫★ المادة ‪:١٠‬‬
‫لكل إنسان الحق‪ ،‬على قدم المساواة التامة مع اآلخرين‪ ،‬في أن تنظر قضيته أمام محكمة مستقلة نزيهة نظرا‬
‫عادال علنيا للفصل في حقوقه والتزاماته وأية تهمة جنائية توجه إليه‪.‬‬

‫★ المادة ‪:٢٧‬‬
‫(‪ )١‬لكل فرد الحق في أن يشترك اشتراكا حرا في حياة المجتمع الثقافي وفي االستمتاع بالفنون والمساهمة في‬
‫التقدم العلمي واالستفادة من نتائجه‪.‬‬

‫(‪ ) ٢‬لكل فرد الحق في حماية المصالح األدبية والمادية المترتبة على إنتاجه العلمي أو األدبي أو الفني‪.‬‬

‫★ المادة ‪:٢٨‬‬

‫لكل فرد الحق في التمتع بنظام اجتماعي دولي تتحقق بمقتضاه الحقوق والحريات المنصوص عليها في هذا‬
‫اإلعالن تحققا تاما‪.‬‬
‫★ المادة ‪:٢٩‬‬
‫(‪ ) ١‬على كل فرد واجبات نحو المجتمع الذي يتاح فيه وحده لشخصيته أن تنمو نموا حرا كامال‪.‬‬

‫(‪ )٢‬يخضع الفرد في ممارسة حقوقه وحرياته لتلك القيود التي يقررها القانون فقط‪ ،‬لضمان االعتراف بحقوق‬
‫الغير وحرياته واحترامها ولتحقيق المقتضيات العادلة للنظام العام والمصلحة العامة واألخالق في مجتمع‬
‫ديمقراطي‪.‬‬

‫(‪ ) ٣‬ال يصح بحال من األحوال أن تمارس هذه الحقوق ممارسة تتناقض مع أغراض األمم المتحدة ومبادئها‪.‬‬
