FORMULATING BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

RESEARCH TITLE:
Relationship of Inactiveness and Lack of exercise to the Physical Health of
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students of Fiat
Lux Academe Cavite

1. State the rationale of your research problem, Start from the international
context down to the local and personal circumstance.

With the challenges brought about by the pandemic, obesity has been a huge problem
for the entire world as most of the students are in quarantine as students do not have
anything to do and are stuck in their own homes. Obesity and lack of exercise became
major problems for some students around the Philippines due to poor diet management
and physical Inactiveness that caused the students to be out of shape. Students
prioritize their homework over health which contributed to the lack of exercise of
students. Overeating and Laziness played a part in the lack of inactive physical activity
of the students. During the coronavirus disease pandemic, Filipino children were forced
under strict stay-at-home orders by the Filipino government to curb the rise of
coronavirus disease cases. Children tended to have lesser physical activities but more
screen time with this limited mobility. Increased screen time is associated with poor
sleep quality, elevated dietary intake, and declining physical activity, and is a mediator of
long-term regulation of energy balance, suppressing food intake and thereby inducing
weight loss and a fast-acting hormone.

2. Describe the setting where your study is to be conducted.

This study is conducted in Fiat Lux Academe Cavite, one of the fines schools that
produce extraordinary students with the same goals, who always have a positive
personality and function to achieve victory. The academe will provide awareness
regarding the inactivity of Grade 12 STEM students in exercise. Despite many STEM
students have no energy when the teacher is discussing and many get tired immediately
even if the STEM students exercise for a while because of this many grades 12 STEM
students experience being overweight and obese. This research study followed the
approximately 300 to 400 men and women between the age of 17 and 18 to gather data
that helps to visualize the effects of lack of exercise in the Grade 12 Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)
3. Indicate the terms or variables (Concepts) that need to be defined, clarified,
or described to your reader.

- Inactiveness
- Lack of Exercise

4. Search for related literature that you can use to define the main variables of
your study. Collect at least 3 references for each variable. Write down the
definitions.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2021), physical
inactiveness or a sedentary lifestyle is defined as spending less than 150 minutes of
moderately intensive activities in a week, or less than 75 minutes of vigorously intensive
activities in a week."

Furthermore explained the sedentary behaviour research network (2018) as any activity
that involves sitting, reclining, or lying down that has a very low energy cost.

Similarly, less than 1.5 kcal/kg/day of energy expenditure during leisure-time physical
activity qualifies as inactivity, which equates to about 3000 steps or a little more than 1.3
miles of walking. That is a 25-minute or shorter walk for the majority of folks.

5. Determine the seriousness of your research problem. Show statistical

evidence of its gravity. Give the complete details of the reference.

Within the current study, almost the entire sample stated they spend more time at home
now compared to pre-pandemic, with roughly half reporting people spending nearly all
waking hours at home. Thus, the premise for the study, increased time at home during
self-quarantine, was validated. Twenty-two percent of the sample stated people gained
between 5–10 pounds. Eating behaviours reported to increase during the quarantine
were, eating when you’re with family and friends, craving, stress eating, when bored,
snacking after diner. Increased eating in response to the sight and smell during
quarantine could be considered a component of the psychological variables impulsivity
and disinhibiting. Impulsivity is a hasty reaction to an outside stimulus without concern
for negative consequences and has been linked with binge eating. Disinhibiting, is also
called mindless eating or the disruption of an inhibited state.

The present study aimed primarily at identifying relationships between physical activity,
sedentariness, eating behaviour and well-being among adolescents during a lockdown
period, while school classes were delivered on-line and organized sport activities were
interrupted. The most striking result was the worryingly low levels of well-being reported
by participants.

6. Show the general objective of the study

In light of this, this correlational study aims to determine the relationship between
inactiveness and lack of exercise to the physical health of Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students of Fiat Lux Academe Cavite for the first
semester of the academic year 2022-2023. This study is conducted to find out what is
the problem that prevents grade 12 STEM students from being active in exercise. To
determine what they can do to restore their activeness in exercise.

7. After the research has been conducted and solved. Identify the people who will
benefit from the research and the direct benefits they will get from it.
Students will benefit from this research's knowledge about the harmful impacts of
inactivity Physical activity increases longevity and decreases the risk of premature
mortality; it also acts as a primary and secondary preventative measure for the
aforementioned illnesses. The proposed plan, "Health and Fitness: A guide to a healthy
lifestyle Program," will act as a guide for students, educating them on the value and
benefits of maintaining physical fitness. Health and Fitness: A guide to a healthy lifestyle
handbook, it will serve as a source of knowledge to learn about and prevent the negative
effects of physical inactivity or lack of exercise. Over all else, this can support the
students in becoming knowledgeable and leading healthy lives. These educational plans
will help each student in understanding the value of physical fitness in life.

RESEARCH TITLE:
Degree of Interest among Grade 12 Science, Technology, Engineering, and
Mathematics (STEM) Students in Including Sex Education as Subject in the
Senior High School Department of Fiat Lux Academe Cavite

1. State the rationale of your research problem, Start from the international
context down to the local and personal circumstance.

Sex education among students seems helpful since it allows them to understand more
about sex which leads them to happier, healthier, and safer lives. Additionally, According
to C. Li, Cheng, Wu, Liang, Gaoshan, L. Li, Hong, and Tang (2017), female Chinese
students who had more knowledge about sex were less likely to report poor reproductive
outcomes, such as unexpected pregnancies or abortions while male Chinese students
were more likely to utilize condoms in most sexual encounters. These results confirm the
necessity of implementation and dissemination of sex education is what Chinese schools
need in order to meet the needs of students.
According to De Torres (2020), the absence of thorough sex education in schools was
the cause of students in the Philippines not knowing the value of condoms or how to use
them properly to protect themselves from diseases like HIV that may be contracted
through sexual activity. For Filipino students, understanding sexually transmitted
diseases and the efficacy of contraception is crucial to preventing diseases and
unexpected early pregnancies. Students at Fiat Lux Academe Cavite are more likely to
experience the same issue regarding having an interest to learn more about sex. Having
a high knowledge about sex can protect them from possible adverse effects. Some
personal experiences of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics students
have revealed that most of them heard about sex education. Therefore, they want to
learn more new things to better understand the importance of learning sex.

2. Describe the setting where your study is to be conducted.

The study is conducted at Fiat Lux Academe Cavite. It is known as one of the finest
schools that can be found in Cavite, producing top-caliber students that bring pride and
honour for the sake of the Academe. The academe provides vast awareness regarding
sex education that will be beneficial to the future of students. The chosen respondents
are mostly hardworking students, and open to new and different ideas and who are
acquainted/friends who are hardworking with the research members. The respondent's
gender can either be male, female, or other; they range from 16-18yrs old that are open
to the discussion of the said topic.

3. Indicate the terms or variables (Concepts) that need to be defines, clarified,

or described to your reader.

- Degree of Interest
- Sex Education as a Subject

4. Search for related literature that you can use to define the main variables of
your study. Collect at least 3 references for each variable. Write down the
definitions.

According to Kearney in Wikipedia 2008) that sex education is all about the aspect of
sexuality, also includes the family planning, and reproduction. To avoid possible aspects
of sexuality, is to use birth-control methods and condoms. Also, Rubin and Kindenall
states that sex education is not just a topic of how babies were born, but it scopes to
help children to understand sex well for their present and future life, that is provided
basic understanding as they reach full maturity

According to Planned Parenthood action fund, Sex Education is a must taught by trained
educators and they will cover a wide range topics about relationship, communication,
and birth-control. Young people are deserve to have opportunities to explore to what
they value and beliefs about sex that they will manage their own sexual health. Sex
Education is a improvising about relationship to sex, that will help young people to
communicate and make decision to their sexual health that will occur throughout a
student’s grade level, and informs them to go the right decision. It helps to prevent
unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, and Sex Education should
treat as normal and natural Part of human development

Almost 90% of students believed it important to have sex education as part of school
curriculum; the majority responding indicated a desire for more widespread
implementation of school-based sex education, particularly amongst female
respondents."

5. Determine the seriousness of your research problem. Show statistical evidence of

its gravity. Give the complete details of the reference.

Learning and knowing about Good sex education teaches young people what constitutes
sexual violence, that sexual violence is wrong, and how to find help if they have been
assaulted. Sex education should include understanding and identifying healthy and
unhealthy relationship patterns. Communicate about sexuality and sexual health like
learning to freely discuss contraception and condoms, as well as activities they are not
ready for, protects young people's health throughout their lives. Delay sexual initiation
until they are ready. A lack of understanding and unhealthy relationships can lead to
unhealthy and even violent relationships. Almost one out of ten high school students has
experienced physical violence from a dating partner in the past year. To lessen the
violence among young adults you should know how to avoid all the problem. Sex
Education is one of some controversies that Filipinos had. Since the government session
is open to public, people tend to have their own opinions regarding this. Few of us knows
that sex education is concerning on how children will cope up in their sexual life. This is
not all about sex itself, but there is “more” in sex education.

According to Yepoyan (2014) sexuality education can be considered a complex

intervention in several respects: It is an area imbued with moral values and judgments,
since it addresses one of the most sensitive aspects of human experience – sexuality.
Teaching about sexuality to young people before marriage is acutely sensitive in many
cultures. Sexuality education helps to developed and established the ability of children to
make satisfying decisions and respectful choices regarding to sexual health.

6. Show the general objective of the study.

Moreover, this descriptive study aims to assess the degree of Interest among grade 12
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Students in Including Sex
Education as Subject in the senior high school department of fiat Lux Academe Cavite
for academic year 2022-2023. Additionally, this study determines how interested grade
12 STEM students are in learning about sex.

7. After the research has been conducted and solved. Identify the people who
will benefit from the research and the direct benefits they will get from it.

The people who will benefit from the study are the students. The students will gain
benefit by being educated by the teachers, who will also undergo sex education courses,
seminars, and orientation to learn how to teach the students properly and responsibly
regarding the sex education subject. STEM students will have awareness of what could
happen if the students commit a mistake and face the consequences of it. The Sex
Education subject will be taught to students normally just like any other subject they've
studied before and sex education subject will be considered a minor subject. The school
will implement an action plan to settle on how they would insert the said subject into the
current curriculum.
