DRAWING CIRCUITS- PARALLEL/SERIES

Circuit drawings are a simple way of displaying the workings of an electrical

circuit, with each electrical component corresponding to its

1. Sketch the circuit symbol for the following electrical components:

a. A cell

b. A wire

c. A voltmeter

d. An ammeter

e. An open switch

f. A filament lightbulb

g. A resistor

h. An LED

i. A battery

2. Write down any pieces of equipment that would be useful in drawing circuit
diagrams.

Rulers, multimeter, graph paper, pencils.

3. Define the difference between a series circuit and a parallel circuit.

In a series circuit, all the components are connected one after the other in a single path.
In a parallel circuit, the components are connected in multiple separate paths.
4. Name a component that must be connected in series and another that must be
connected in parallel.

A filament bulb is usually connected in series, and batteries are connected in parallel.

5. Draw two different circuits that could both connect a bulb, a resistor and a switch to
a battery.

6. Draw a parallel circuit with three loops, one loop with a switch and a bulb, another
loop with an LED and a resistor and another with an ammeter and a variable resistor.

7. The circuit diagram below is both incorrect and badly drawn. Identify all the things
that are wrong with it (there are five).

The battery is not connected to the circuit.

The switch is not connected to the circuit.
The filament bulb is not connected to the circuit.
Ground connection.
