Activity Guide and Evaluation Rubric – Task 2 - Analog didactic language materials.

1. Activity Description
Type of Activity: Collaborative
Evaluation Moment: Intermediate Unit 1
Highest Activity Score: 175 points
The activity starts on: Thursday, August The activity ends on: Wednesday,
31st, 2023 October 11th, 2023
With this activity, you are expected to achieve the following learning
outcomes:

To design analog teaching materials in English to be applied in face-to-face learning

environments through the creation of activities focused on the practice of
communicative skills.
The activity consists of:

Individually:

1. Watch the VLO you find in the references from unit one called “Designing English
language teaching materials”, there you have to develop the pre-activity and
learning activities proposed in the VLO. Make sure you save screenshots from
the development of the activities proposed in the VLO.

2. Read the following documents proposed in the contents of unit 1, that are related
to the creation of materials based on communicative skills:

 Developing Reading Materials for ESL Learners.

 Material for Teaching Writing.
 Some Guidelines for Developing Listening Materials.
 Materials to Develop Speaking Skill.

3. Based on these texts, answer the questions below:

a) What are the factors that need to be considered when developing materials for
the use of language in context?

1
b) What are the different types of listening activities that can be used in English
language teaching? Give at least 3 types, and explain.

c) How can teachers ensure that their speaking activities are engaging and
motivating for learners of different ages and abilities?

d) How can teachers develop writing materials that are sensitive to the cultural
backgrounds of their learners?

e) How can teachers evaluate the effectiveness of their reading materials?

4. Do not forget to include in-text citations and references when responding to the
questions.

5. You need to publish the answers in the collaborative forum, at least three weeks
before the due date.

6. Considering the suggestions provided by the readings about the creation of

language learning materials, you are going to design an analog workshop using the
template provided in the learning environment which is called “Template-
Workshop. This is in the same folder you found this guide.

7. In the template provided, you are going to design five activities to make the
language learners practice their communicative skills. The activities from
the workshop must be directed to face-to-face environments.

Please, follow these steps:

a) Choose one of the communicative topics proposed in the following chart and
post your selection in the collaborative forum, to avoid repetition.

Communicative topics

1 Dreams and aspirations

2 Health and Fitness
3 Space exploration
4 The COVID-19 pandemic
5 Animal rights
6 Sustainable travel

2
b) Once you have chosen the topic, download the template-workshop, include
your name, the communicative topic, and state an objective that must be
coherent with it. Then, design five activities related to the topic meeting the
requirements described in the following chart:

to include different exercises. For
example, filling in the blanks, error
correction, gap-filling word bank,
sentence order, verb conjugation,

time. Here you need to include productive
activities to make your students speak.
E.g. dialogues, simulations, interviews,
and creating videos, among others.

Note: You cannot take or adapt the activities from other authors. You can use
authentic or non-authentic materials to create your own ones.

c) Do not forget to include images, visuals, pictures, and else, to make your
activities appealing to the students.

d) Consider that all the exercises must be directed to your students, so the
instructions should be clear and brief, do not forget to include the references
using APA style in the workshop.

e) Once you have designed the workshop, you need to share it in the
collaborative environment, this must be done at least two weeks before the
due date, to receive feedback from your tutor and peers.

f) Do not forget to delete the instructions included in the template, before the
submission.

Collaborative work:

1. All members of the group must participate with their contributions in

the development of a Flipbook that must contain the following:

a. A cover page with the members of the group who participated in the
designing of the flipbook.

b. A brief introduction to your flipbook mentioning the topics included in

the activities, and the characteristics of some of the activities included.

c. The analog workshops from all the members of the group.

d. Take into account that your flipbook must be visually attractive to the visitor,
so you need to include images, visuals, pictures, and else, to make your
book appealing to the reader.

e. Do not forget to leave your flipbook public so your readers will have access
to its content.

4
f. You need to use any of the following online tools to design your flipbook:

 ISSUU
 Flipsnack
 Flipping Book
 Paperflite
 Publuu
 Lucidpress

https://publuu.com/flip-book/264221/621385

2. The final group’s document will be a PDF document in which you include the
following:
a. A cover page with the members who participated actively in the designing of
the flipbook

b. A condensed and last version of the individual answers given to the questions
from the readings. In the collaborative forum, you can discuss and agree
with your group on the most complete ones to be included in the final
document.

c. The link to the flipbook.

d. The evidence student by student of the development of the VLO, feedback

given to their classmates, decisions made, and their contributions to the
creation of the flipbook in the collaborative forum.

3. This document must be submitted in the monitoring and evaluation

environment by the group’s submitter.

Note: Have in mind this activity is going to be checked by Turnitin the university tool
to avoid plagiarism, then you should reference the author, write in-text citations, and
paraphrase. See APA 07th edition to check how to do the in-text citations.

For the development of the activity consider that:

In the Initial Information Environment, you must: observe the course presentation,
check the course agenda, and the date of the synchronous meetings by
webconferences, and attention through Skype.

In the Learning Environment, you must: have access to the course syllabus, download
the guide, and check the links of the documents you have to consider for the
5
development of the activity.

6
In the Evaluation Environment, you must: Submit the final document, which meets
the requirements of the guide.

Evidence of individual work:

The individual evidence to be submitted is:

● Evidence of the VLO development.

● The answers to the questions proposed based on the readings.
● The workshops including the activities designed.

Evidence of collaborative work:

The collaborative evidence to be submitted is:

● A document with a cover page considering APA style format.

● A condensed last version of the answers from the group.
● The flipbook designed by the group containing the workshops created.

2. General Guidelines for the Development of Evidence to Submit

For Collaborative evidence, consider the following:

● All members of the group must participate with their contributions to the
development of the activity.

● In each group, a single member will be chosen to submit the requested product
in the environment indicated by the teacher.

● Before submitting the requested product, students should check that it meets all
the requirements mentioned in this activity guide.

● Only the members of the group that participated with contributions during the
time assigned for the activity should be included as authors of the submitted
product.

Please keep in mind that all individual or collaborative written products must comply
with the spelling rules and presentation conditions that have been defined.
Regarding the use of references, consider that the product of this activity must meet
the APA Format Guide.

7
In any case, make sure you comply with the rules and avoid academic plagiarism.
You can review your written products using the Turnitin tool found on the virtual
campus.

Under the Academic Code of Conduct, the actions that infringe the academic order,
among others, are the following: paragraph e) "Plagiarism is to present as your own
work all or part of a written report, task or document of invention carried out by
another person. It also implies the use of citations or lack of references, or it includes
citations where there is no match between these and the reference" and paragraph f)
" To reproduce, or copy for profit, educational resources or results of research
products, which have rights reserved for the University ". (Acuerdo 029 - 13 de
diciembre de 2013, Artículo 99)

The academic penalties students will face are:

a) In case of academic fraud demonstrated in the academic work or evaluation, the
score obtained will be zero (0.0) without any disciplinary measures being derived.
b) In case of proven plagiarism in academic work of any nature, the score obtained
will be zero (0.0), without any disciplinary measures being derived.
