CAPSTONE UPDATE #1

Please ensure you include SPECIFIC DETAILS and EXAMPLES in your writing when answering the
following prompts below.

IF YOU HAVEN’T DONE ANYTHING FOR YOUR CAPSTONE YET, YOU MUST SHARE WHY AND WHAT
YOU ARE GOING TO DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT WEEK.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

1. What have you accomplished so far with your Capstone Project outside of class?

I met with my mentor and discussed potential ideas for about a week or two. We have finally
decided on the obstacle that we will build. The plan is to build a wheel on a pirate ship as an obstacle.
We went over a couple of ways that it would be possible to design as an obstacle.

2. What do you plan to accomplish by the end of next week?

By the end of next week, I intend to get a complete blueprint on paper and start gathering the
materials for the project. I need to decide how I intend to suspend the obstacle, and what tools we want
to use to cut and build the obstacle.

3. What are your needs (time, space, materials, personal contacts etc)?

As of now, I am looking at a few needs for this project. I need to get the design completed before I can
go get the supplies for the project. I need to start planning dates to meet with my mentor and get
access to the facility to start building.
4. Have you encountered any obstacles or challenges so far, and how have you overcome them?

Deciding on what obstacle to build was a big challenge for me coming into this. As someone who used
to coach and had so many ideas for obstacles while setting up, but I completely blanked when the
opportunity finally came to me. I had the ideas; it was just figuring out how to build the obstacle or if it
would even work that was the problem. Another fork in the road was what I am going to use to build
the obstacle, since I have access to a facility that gives me several options to choose from. I decided I'm
going to use a mix of hand tools and cnc machining for more accurate cuts.
