Pythagorean Theorem

The sum of the squares of the legs of a right triangle will equal the square of the hypotenuse of the triangle.

Distance Formula * Explain the relationship between Pythagorean Theorem and the Distance Formula

The distance between two points (𝑥! , 𝑦! ) and (𝑥" , 𝑦" ) can be calculated as

𝑑=

Circles

The equation of a circle centered at the point (ℎ, 𝑘) with radius 𝑟 can be written as
Example: Write the equation for a circle center at the point the given point with the specified radius.

1) Center: (−1,5) Radius: 𝑟 = 2

! !
2) Center: /# , 2.32 Radius: 𝑟 = $

(S) 3) Center: (2, −7) Radius: 𝑟 = 0.6

Example: Write the equation of the circle using the information provided.

1) Center located at (3,7) that passes through the point (15,13).

2) The points (2,6) and (8,10) lie at the ends of a diameter.
