Are you in favor of mining in Tampakan, South

Cotabato?
Tampakan mining is owned by Indophil Resources NL and operated by Sagittarius

Mines Inc. It has almost half of the country's total copper reserves and resources at 15.2

million tonnes. I am not in favor of mining in tampakan. Although it has made a major

contribution to the Economic development of the country, it should be banned.

considering the risk of pollution, erosion, siltation, and continuing devastating flash

floods and landslides. It has a negative impact on the indigenous people who lived

nearby, damaging farmlands and fisheries and seriously impacting the food source for

the wider Muslim and indigenous populations while destroying their livelihoods. Mine

exploration, construction, operation, and maintenance may result in land-use change

and may have associated negative impacts on the environment. This eventuality could

lead to major social unrest. The whole people in our country will be the beneficiary of

this mining, but the innocent people who lived nearby the mining spot will suffer,

affecting their supply and health status.

Furthermore, it ought to be outlawed because it violates human rights. mining in the

area should be banned, considering the risk of pollution, erosion, siltation, and

continuing devastating flash floods and landslides. The potential huge negative impact

on food security, seismic geohazard, and presence of armed conflicts were also

considered. It clearly violates the government’s order to refrain from conducting any

development activity in the project area. It should be prohibited even if it has

significantly aided the nation's economic prosperity. The negative impact on the

environment should be considered, including deforestation, erosion, contamination,

alteration of soil profiles, contamination of local streams and wetlands, and an increase

in noise levels, dust, and emissions. Because of these detrimental effects, residents of

the area are unable to live normally.

In conclusion, mining in tampakan should be taken down because of its negative effects

on the community and the environment. it also violates the human rights. Although it

has a major contribution to the country’s economical development, we need to consider

the people who lived nearby and the critical condition of the environment., including the

risk of pollution, erosion, siltation, and continuing devastating flash floods and

landslides. It also affects the supply of the people in the community and their lifestyle.

The problem might get worse if this project is continued.
