Short Review (7 Minutes)

Students review the previous lesson by answering the question below:

You are expected to use complex sentences to show cause and effect and problem-
solution relationship of ideas.

Lesson Language Practice (5 Minutes)

Students arrange the scrambled letters and read its meaning to form the correct word.

Lesson Activity (25 Minutes)

Pass the Message


Students are divided into two and let the students play pass the message. The first group to
write on the board the accurate message will be the winner.
Message. I attend the National Learning Camp because I wanted to get better in English,
Science and Math.
Note: The teacher briefly discusses the two parts of the sentence above the independent clause
and dependent clause which makes it a complex sentence and identifies in the sentence the
cause and effect.
What a Silly Sentence!
Use the words from the chart below and create silly sentences. Remember to use
capitalization and punctuation. Be prepared to read it aloud.

Note: Explain other subordinating conjunctions used in complex sentences. Introduce the I
SAW A WABUB acronym- If, Since, As, When, Although, While, After, Before, Until and
Because.

Rock, Paper Scissors


Students play ‘rock, paper, scissors’ in pairs. The winner will identify whether the sentence
is complex or not. Then, his/her pair spot the subordinating conjunction used.
1. Until I die, I will adore her.
2. Whenever I go on vacation, I don’t forget my sunscreen lotion.
3. Paul wants to be a lawyer.
4. I love painting and singing.
5. I enjoyed playing sungka when I was a child.
